Wegman Finance LLC CPA-led financial support — not tax prep. Most service businesses have books. Nobody's using them. Book a consultation wegmanfinance.com/consult.

I keep the numbers current, explain what they mean, and help when decisions come up.

I could use a little help getting the word out.

If you know a service business owner who could use better bookkeeping and more help understanding what the numbers mean, I’d appreciate an introduction.

If that sounds like your business, feel free to send me a message.

People sometimes assume a consultation means I’m going to try to sell them a package.

That’s not really how I think about it.

The first conversation is mostly about understanding what’s going on in the business.

How are the books being handled?
Where do the numbers stop being useful?
What decisions are coming up?
What feels harder to see than it should?

Sometimes there’s a clear fit.
Sometimes there isn’t.

Either way, the first step is just making the picture easier to read.

Summer is when a lot of service businesses do most of their year's work.

It's also when "are we actually making money on this one" quietly becomes a question for later.

Later usually means after the season — when the answer can't change anything.

Financial reports usually make more sense once someone asks what actually happened in the business that month.

Sometimes “the numbers are confusing” really means the business changed and the reports did not catch up.

A full schedule has a way of making hiring feel obvious.

And sometimes it is.

But I’d still want to know whether the current work can actually support another paycheck before adding one.

Busy helps.

Busy but profitable is different.

Annoying detail, the making money part.

Most people hear CPA and think taxes.

Fair.

But the work I do is mostly about the other eleven months.

The pricing decisions.
The hiring decisions.
The jobs that looked good but did not leave much behind.
The reports that technically exist, but do not really help anyone make decisions.

Tax time tells you what happened.

The rest of the year is when you decide what happens next.

There is a difference between having financial reports and having someone paying attention.

A report can tell you what happened.

But it does not automatically tell you what changed, what matters, or what you should be watching before the next decision.

That is the gap a lot of service businesses run into.

The books may be current.
The reports may exist.
The numbers may technically be there.

But if nobody is reading them in the context of how the business actually works, the owner is still left guessing.

And guessing gets expensive when you are making decisions about pricing, hiring, equipment, capacity, or cash.

Pricing that made sense two years ago might be costing you now.

Labor costs changed.
Materials changed.
Fuel, insurance, software, and overhead changed.

But a lot of service businesses are still pricing work from an older version of the business.

That is how you can stay busy and still feel like the money is not showing up.

The question is not just, “Are we getting work?”

It is, “Is the work still priced to leave enough behind?”

Most service business owners can tell you how much revenue came in last month.

Fewer can tell you which jobs actually made money.

That is where margin gets lost.

A job can look good from the outside:
The customer paid.
The crew stayed busy.
The invoice went out.

But once labor, materials, timing, callbacks, and overhead are factored in, the story can change quickly.

Two jobs can bring in the same revenue and produce completely different profits.

Some of the busiest parts of a business can also be the least profitable.

Revenue tells you what came in.

Profit tells you whether the work was actually worth doing.

Most businesses already have books.

That does not always mean the numbers are helping anyone make decisions.

What I do is pretty simple:

I keep the financial picture current, watch what the numbers are saying, and help business owners understand what matters before decisions get more expensive.

Pricing.
Hiring.
Cash flow.
Margins.
Whether the work coming in is actually turning into profit.

The goal is not more reports.

The goal is numbers you can actually use while you are running the business.
