"We're profitable. So why is the bank account empty?"

QuickBooks found that 60% of small business owners say cash flow has been a problem.

A cash flow forecast fixes the surprise part. It maps the money you expect in and out over the next few months, so you see the tight week before you're in it.

One tip from the same article: run a best case and a worst case. The truth usually lands in between.

Have you ever been caught off guard by a slow month? Give us a call and we can help you plan so it doesn't happen again. (479) 295-9474

AI is getting very good at sorting transactions.

However, it still can't sit across the table and help you decide:

β†’ Can I afford to hire in January?
β†’ Should I raise my prices?
β†’ Do I buy the truck now or wait?

Those answers take accurate books and someone who knows your business. That's what advisory is for.

What's the biggest money decision on your plate before year-end? Let the real guys help, give us a call to get startedπŸ‘‡

By wisdom a house is built; and through understanding it is established. - Proverbs 24:3 NIV

Good things get built on purpose. A plan first, then the work.

October is the right month to start your 2027 budget. Not December. Not January.

One rule from QuickBooks worth keeping: build the budget from what you actually earned and spent, not what you hope to earn. Pull it from bank statements and past bills.

A simple starting point:
β†’ Last 12 months of income, by month
β†’ Fixed costs that hit no matter what
β†’ Costs that move with sales
β†’ The one-time expenses you already know are coming

If your books are current, this takes an afternoon. If they aren't, that's the first fix.

You'll hear "fractional CFO" a lot more in the next year. Here's what it means.

It's high-level financial guidance on a part-time basis. The strategy of a CFO, without the full-time salary.

QuickBooks lists several signs a business is ready for one. Four we see most in small businesses:

1️⃣ Cash is always tight, even in good months
2️⃣ There's no budget or plan past this year
3️⃣ You're about to ask a bank for money
4️⃣ You're growing faster than your cash can keep up

"Do you only do bookkeeping?"

No. We also offer advisory services.

Budgeting. Forecasting. Help thinking through the big decisions before you make them.

We work alongside a CPA partner, so small businesses here in Northwest Arkansas can get that level of guidance without hiring a full-time CFO.

Slow and steady still wins. A new quarter is a good time to make the plan before making the move.

Not every business needs a full-time bookkeeper. πŸ“’

NACPB puts it simply: how often a business needs bookkeeping help depends on the business. Some only need it once a year at tax time. Others need monthly statements for their lender.

Q3 wraps up today. Tomorrow, the last quarter of 2026 begins!

QuickBooks' year-end checklist makes a good point: waiting until December leaves very little time to fix errors. So here's what to get moving on in October instead:

1️⃣ Run your P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statement. Know where you stand before you plan.
2️⃣ Check vendor details and make sure a current W-9 is on file for every contractor.
3️⃣ Collect on open invoices so that cash lands in this year.
4️⃣ Plan year-end bonuses so they run through payroll before December 31.
5️⃣ Look for deductions and credits now, while there's still time to act on them.

None of these are hard. They just get harder the closer you get to the holidays.

Which one is already on your list? πŸ‘‡

Q3 ends Wednesday. Before you close it out, one question:

What do you actually need your numbers to tell you?

NACPB calls accounting the language of business, and points to an old habit for getting it right: begin with the end in mind. Books aren't kept for the sake of keeping books. They exist so an owner can make a decision.

Hire or hold? Raise prices? Buy the equipment now or in January?

If your reports can't answer the question you're asking, that's worth fixing before Q4.

What decision are you facing this quarter?
