At Community Bridges Foundation, we talk a lot about "ecosystems of helpers"โ€”the idea that lasting change doesn't happen in a silo. It happens when neighbors, organizations, and families show up for one another.

That is why we are honored to be the Presenting Sponsor for Jewish for Good's Mitzvah Day 2025.

For 20 years, Mitzvah Day has turned December 25th from a "day off" into a "day on," mobilizing volunteers across Durham to support everything from the Diaper Bank of North Carolina to Durham Rescue Mission to the Animal Protection Society of Durham.

This isnโ€™t just about service hours; itโ€™s about Kehillah (Belonging) and Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World). Itโ€™s what happens when we lower barriers to entry and create spaces where everyoneโ€”regardless of age or abilityโ€”can contribute to the dignity of their community.

Whether youโ€™re painting crosswalks, cooking meals, or making blankets from home, there is a role for you in this mosaic.

Bridges to Impact is Community Bridges Foundationโ€™s annual match initiative that strengthens organizations building belonging, dignity, and justice. Each year, CBF partners with a select group of nonprofits to run goal-based fundraising challenges. When community supporters help an organization reach its target, CBF unlocks a matching giftโ€”amplifying momentum, deepening engagement, and turning community support into community action.

Ten years ago, my phone rangโ€”and a group of parents taught me where real expertise lives.

They didn't call to vent. They called because they were organizing. They wanted to talk policy, strategy, and how to navigate a maze that most people never see. Within minutes, it was clear: these mothers and advocates knew more about the NC IDD system than I did. Of course they did. They had been living it, fighting through it, and becoming experts on behalf of their children.

Today, that same lived expertise powers North Carolina Advocates for Medically Fragile Children (Fragile Kids NC). This parent-led organization is working every day to make sure medically fragile children get the services, stability, and dignity they deserve.

After 40+ states adopted Employment First policies, only 14% of people with IDD have competitive integrated jobsโ€”averaging 13 hours per week at $11.80/hour. Now AI threatens to displace 19 million American jobs, most of them entry-level: retail, food service, hospitality, admin support. You know, all the jobs Employment First depends on. What's Plan B?

I was sitting at a luncheon during a disability-inclusive housing summit when someone at my table turned to me and asked, "So, who are you working with these days?" I mentioned that Community Bridges Foundation had provided seed funding to a clubhouse run by B3 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. B3 is
