Your company is probably already using AI.

The bigger question is: Do you know how?
What information are employees putting into AI tools?
What decisions are they using AI to help make?
Are the results being verified?
What happens when it’s wrong?
Who’s responsible?

AI governance can sound like something only huge corporations need to worry about. It’s not. You don’t necessarily need a 200-page AI policy. But you do need enough structure to understand how AI is being used in your business and where the risks are.

That’s really what governance is about. Not creating more rules for the sake of rules. Creating enough clarity that you can use the technology with confidence.

So, does your organization know how it’s using AI?

It’s a question worth asking before adding another AI tool to the stack.

Finders → Fixers

Finding the problem is the easy part.

“This process doesn’t work.”
“Customers keep complaining about this.”
“We’re always behind here.”
“Nobody knows who’s responsible for that.”

Great. We found it. 🏆

Now what?

Strong organizations don’t just get better at identifying problems. They give people the tools to understand why something is happening and the ability to help fix it.

That’s the thinking behind our Finders → Fixers approach and the 12 Tools.

Because the goal isn’t to create more people who can point at the mess.

It’s to build people who know what to do about it.

Everyone’s talking about AI. Very few people are talking about how to manage it. That’s the gap. AI isn’t just another software implementation. It affects quality, risk, compliance, security, decision-making, and trust. That’s why we’re excited to have Jack Teitel joining James R. Thompson this Wednesday for a conversation about ISO 42001 and AI governance.

Jack spends his time helping organizations move AI from interesting experiments to real-world business solutions with the governance and accountability needed to make them successful.

If you’re wondering where AI fits into your management system, or where to even begin, we’ll cover it.

No hype.
No fear.
Just practical guidance.

AI isn’t the hard part. Governing it is. Most organizations are asking the same questions:
Can we use AI?
Should we use AI?
Where do we even start?

The better question is:
How do we use AI responsibly?

That’s exactly why ISO 42001 was created. It isn’t about slowing innovation. It’s about creating a framework that allows organizations to embrace AI with confidence, accountability, and trust.

Join James R. Thompson and Jack Teitel on Wednesday 8/12 at noon ET for a practical Lunch & Learn on AI Governance and ISO 42001.

They’ll discuss:
• What ISO 42001 actually is (without the jargon)
• How organizations are approaching AI governance
• Practical ways to integrate AI into your existing management system
• Where AI creates real business value—and where it introduces risk

If AI is becoming part of your organization, this conversation is worth an hour of your time.

Most organizations still govern AI like traditional software.
They assess risk before launch, deploy the system, and then treat it as “done.”
𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻.

AI systems keep learning and changing after they go live. A risk assessment completed in March can already be outdated by September. When teams apply static IT governance to dynamic systems, they silently accumulate unmanaged risk.

ISO 42001 was created specifically for this reality. It requires continuous, trigger-based risk reassessment and forces organizations to treat AI as a living system, not a finished product.

We break this down clearly in our practical ISO 42001 course.

🤖 AI systems don’t stay the same after you launch them.
They keep learning and changing.
𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐚 𝐡𝐮𝐠𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭.

Experts from around the world recommend treating AI risk assessment as an 𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲, not a one-time checkbox. This is explicitly required in 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝟖.𝟐 (and linked to Clause 6.1.2) of ISO 42001.

Here’s a short clip from our ISO 42001 course explaining why this matters...

Most companies say AI is “strategic.”
Then they hand the entire responsibility to a mid-level safety, compliance, or IT person 🤦‍♂️.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺.

ISO 42001 is very clear: 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. They can’t just delegate and walk away. This is required in Clause 5.1.

Here’s a short supercut of clips from the course on what that actually looks like in practice:

What do you think, do companies, including OpenAI who have been messing up big, need to re-look at leadership engagement on AI governance?
