Employee of the Month goes to… our Hitachi excavator!

He never calls out, never asks for a raise, doesn’t complain about this South Carolina heat, and somehow still does all the heavy lifting.

From moving logs to clearing land, digging, grading, and site prep, this machine earns its paycheck every single day.

From thick woods to a brand new access road. This customer in Awendaw needed a way to access the back side of their property and we were happy to make it happen for them.

Projects like this require extra attention. Since the property was in the wetlands, every step had to meet Army Corps of Engineers specifications. We cleared the land and removed all of the trees and stumps, removed all of the unsuitable soils, imported structural fill dirt, placed and compacted the fill, installed 30” culvert pipes, compacted the fill around the pipes, installed riprap for erosion control, and spread slag fines to create a durable finished road surface.

We knocked this project out in just one day, and now the homeowner has full access to the rest of their property.

Every property is different, and we enjoy finding the right solution for each one.

Meet Zac Hanratty, the owner of Bulls Bay Site Work.

Born and raised on Johns Island, South Carolina, Zac has spent his entire life in the Lowcountry. Today, he and his family call McClellanville home, and he’s proud to serve homeowners, builders, and property owners across the entire Lowcountry.

His journey didn’t start in the cab of an excavator—it started on the ground.

Fifteen years ago, Zac entered the industry as a laborer, spending five years running chainsaws, digging trenches by hand, and learning every aspect of the job from the ground up. Through hard work, determination, and a willingness to learn, he earned his way into operating heavy equipment, where he’s spent the last ten years mastering his craft.

When he found out he was going to be a father, he took a leap of faith and started Bulls Bay Site Work.

He wanted to build something of his own, a company his family could be proud of and one that reflected the values he believes every customer deserves: honest communication, hard work, quality workmanship, and treating every project as if it were his own.

Whether he’s clearing land, demolishing structures, building house pads, digging ponds, or preparing properties for their next chapter, Zac loves helping turn his clients’ vision into a reality.

Outside of work, you’ll usually find him spending time with his wife and their 2 year old son, getting ready to welcome a baby girl this November, or enjoying the outdoors hunting and fishing.

At Bulls Bay Site Work, every completed project carries his name, and that’s something he doesn’t take lightly. His goal is simple: leave every customer confident they chose the right company for the job.

From Charleston to Mount Pleasant, Summerville, Goose Creek, Moncks Corner, Johns Island, James Island, West Ashley, Ravenel, Hollywood, Meggett, Awendaw, Huger, McClellanville, and everywhere in between, Bulls Bay Site Work is proud to serve the Lowcountry with dependable, professional site work.

Thank you to everyone who has trusted Bulls Bay Site Work. We’re excited to keep serving our community and helping bring your projects to life.

Here’s a 2.5-acre clearing job we recently wrapped up.

We root raked the entire area, burned all of the debris on site, and then graded everything out smooth. The goal was to leave our client with a clean, usable space that’ll be easy to maintain and nice and smooth when it’s time to cut grass.

There’s nothing better than seeing land go from trees and old stumps into a nice new flat ground.

If you need land clearing, grading, trenching, or site work done.

Before and after of a small horse riding ring we recently completed, measuring 100’ x 60’.

We started by clearing the area and burning everything on site. From there, we hauled off all of the ash and topsoil, then brought in clean arena sand to help with proper drainage and create solid footing for the horses.

It’s always rewarding to see a space go from raw ground to something functional and ready to use.

If you or someone you know needs trenching for water, power, drainage, or anything similar, give us a call!

For this job, the client needed a little over 2,000 feet of water line run from the water meter all the way to the stub-out at their home. We trenched it, laid the pipe, glued everything up, and got it backfilled.

Big or small, we’re happy to help get it done right

Fine grading this house pad and getting it ready for the next big step the foundation of our clients’ forever home.

There’s a lot that goes into preparing a solid building pad, and it all starts with making sure the grade is right, the pad is clean, and everything is dialed in before concrete and construction begin. Proper site prep helps set the tone for the entire build, and we’re proud to play a part in getting this property ready for what’s ahead.

It’s always rewarding to know our work is helping a family move one step closer to building a place they’ll call home for years to come.

Another rough grade wrapped up for one of our clients.

This property was recently purchased, and the goal is to turn a low-lying area into a usable, healthy horse pasture in the future. Before grass seed can go down, the elevation needs to be brought up several feet with good fill material and shaped properly for better drainage and long-term use.

So far, we’ve brought in and spread roughly 1,000 cubic yards of fill dirt, and we still have approximately 1,500 cubic yards left to import before this area is ready for final grading and seeding.

Projects like this take time, planning, and the right equipment, but it’s always rewarding to see a piece of property start coming together. What was once low, rough ground is now on its way to becoming a clean, functional pasture area.

At Bulls Bay Site Work, we take pride in helping property owners improve their land and make it work for their needs.

Whether it’s rough grading, drainage, dirt work, driveway prep, land clearing, or site development, we’re here to help get the job done right.
