Control Joint in Concrete

Control joints in concrete are provided at regular interval to from a weak plane, so that cracks are formed at the joints but not in undesired places. Control joints are provided in concrete pavements, slabs, walls, floors, dams, canal linings, bridge, retaining walls etc.

The main aim of providing a weak joint is to create a weak plane in the concrete at regular intervals where the possibility of cracking is more. These joints are placed to produce panels that are as square as possible and never exceed a length to width ratio of 1 ½ to 1. Joints are commonly spaced at distances equal to 24 to 30 times the slab thickness. The contraction joint is known as control joint.

Why?
To become a Certified Woman Owned Construction Business. I have not been hired as a woman construction business because I'm a woman in a Male dominated field. And to get past those barriers I need to be certified woman owned and pre qualified. But to be pre qualified I need to show work I've done in that capacity. HELP me to break down those barriers that I have come across in 20 years of my experience. There is a great need for woman owned construction businesses. I've pursued this goal for almost 20 years. And it is so much harder for a woman to get hired doing construction work than it is any man. I'm doing this to provide my own living, yes. BUT I have influenced so many young women to step across that line and give construction a try in my career. So becoming a woman owned construction business is not about me. It's about opening doors for the ones who come behind me.
I am offering Construction Consulting Services for free in order to get at least five projects under my belt. This has not been at all easy since I am a woman. BUT believe me I can do as good or better job than a man.
I know it's hard to step across and do something that's uncomfortable like hiring a woman to do something that you see men doing.
I get it. I think the same way. If I'm looking for construction work of any kind. I see a man doing that. But there are many women who are seeking good paying jobs and they pass up the construction field because they dont see themselves there. And they could be making self sustaining wages.

Preliminary Drawings to prepare a bid package. Knowing the critical areas to repair controls cost when getting bids from different contractors and ensures that the issues get corrected. This relieves the owners of redoing the repairs a year later.

My Findings:

1. Triangular Corners are unacceptable-they are proven crack zones. Square off the ends. This slab will crack within 2 years or less close to the point of the slab.

2. Turn zone should be flared to avoid weight bearing on the edges.

3. Thickness is less than 4 inch. This thickness is not sufficient to handle the weight of cars.

This is poorly designed which will cause premature failures and higher up front replacement or maintenance costs.
