Has your team ever committed to a new standard of care and then slowly drifted back to the old way of doing things?

You are not alone. And it does not mean your team does not care or your leadership has failed. It means you are human. Agree drift is inevitable. What matters is how you respond to it.

In this kickoff episode of Season 5 of the Inspired Hygiene Podcast, Rachel Wall is joined by Emme Sanders, Lead Coach with Inspired Hygiene and Co-Founder of Collabricon, with over a decade of experience coaching practices. Emme has seen agree drift play out more times than she can count and in this episode she shares exactly what to do when it happens.

Her approach is not confrontational. It is not punitive. It is a leadership conversation rooted in trust and shared accountability.

This is the kind of practical, human, immediately applicable leadership insight that Season 5 is all about. We are going deep into the Inspired Hygiene System this season and leadership is where we start for a reason.

Because the practices that are growing are not the ones where drift never happens. They are the ones where the leader knows how to have that conversation and bring the team back with trust and intention intact.

This fabulous article by Amanda Hill speaks to what we often see all too often with our coaching clients...hygiene care on auto-pilot.

To be fair, it's not easy to change up clinical workflow in long-standing practices. We frequently work with teams that have been together for 30+ years.

As Amanda states, if we as hygienists want to preserve the value of our training and optimize our role as healthcare professionals, we must be responsive to how each patient presents and adjust our workflow and clinical care accordingly.

If you have ever wondered what the Inspired Hygiene System actually looks like from the inside, your answer is coming.

This is the framework that Rachel has been teaching to rooms of dental professionals all spring and every single time she presents it, the response is the same, dental teams walking away with a completely different picture of what their hygiene department is capable of.

Leadership. Mindset. Empowering the team. Diagnosis driven care. And so much more.

This system is the foundation of everything we do at Inspired Hygiene. It is what we build our coaching around. It is what has helped practices across the country transform their hygiene departments from the inside out.

And starting in June we are going to take you inside all of it.

Season 5 of the Inspired Hygiene Podcast is entirely dedicated to the Inspired Hygiene System, one element at a time, with real conversations, real context and real insight from Rachel and the team.

If you have ever wondered what it actually takes to build a hygiene department that thrives, this season was made for you.

Make sure you are following the Inspired Hygiene Podcast so you do not miss a single episode when we drop season five, https://inspiredhygiene.com/podcast/

Can we talk about something that doesn't get said enough?

The hygiene department is one of the most undervalued parts of a dental practice.

Not because practices don't care. Most of them do. It's just that hygiene tends to run quietly in the background. The schedule stays full, appointments happen, and it's easy to look at that and think, okay, we're good.

But there's a difference between a hygiene department that's just keeping up and one that's actually flourishing. And that difference matters more than most people realize.

Think about what happens in that hygiene chair every single day. Relationships are built over years. Health conversations happen that can genuinely change someone's life. Patients decide whether they trust your practice, whether they're coming back, whether they're going to say yes to the care they actually need.

That's not a small thing. That's everything.

And the hygienists doing that work every day deserve real support. Real systems. Real investment in their growth and development.

When practices start showing up for their hygiene team that way, something really cool happens. The team feels it. Patients feel it. And the whole practice starts to shift in ways that are hard to ignore.

Hygiene isn't just a department. It's the heartbeat of your practice.

And when it's treated that way, the results speak for themselves.

In the final episode of Season 4, Rachel makes a case for something that doesn't get talked about enough, dentists and dental teams showing up for dental hygiene students in a really intentional way. Not just to recruit. But because a rising tide lifts all ships.

Something as simple as a $500 scholarship can change the trajectory of a hygiene student's life. It can help them pay for board fees, get licensed, and step into your community as a practicing hygienist. And when you're the practice that showed up for them before they even graduated, you become the practice they already know, already trust, and already want to work for.

Think about what that means for your practice. You're not posting on Indeed and hoping the right person applies. You're not scrambling to find coverage when someone leaves. You're not starting from scratch every time you need to hire. Instead you've been quietly building relationships with hygienists in your community long before you ever needed them. Your name is already familiar. Your culture is already known. And when those students graduate and start looking for where they want to build their career, your practice is already on their list. That's not luck. That's what intentional investment looks like.

That kind of investment comes back around. To your community. To your profession. To the future of dentistry in your area.

In this episode Rachel shares two incredible free resources, including a guide with 10 lunch and learn topic ideas you can bring to your local dental hygiene program, and a list of new dental hygiene schools opening across the U.S. Grab them here: https://keap.page/zrj88966/lunch-and-learn-kit.html

When practices first partner with us, there’s often a natural sense of nervousness at the start. Which honestly makes so much sense. Doing something new with your team, shifting the way things have always been done, putting yourself out there, that takes courage.

So when we get feedback that the experience ended up being not just valuable but actually fun, that means everything to us.

That's always the goal. Yes, we want real results. Yes, we want your hygiene department to grow and your team to walk away with tools they can actually use. But we also want it to feel good getting there.

Because change sticks when people enjoy the process. When the team is engaged, laughing, learning together, that energy carries back into the practice with them.

Thank you to this amazing team for trusting us and showing up so openly. Reviews like this remind us exactly why we do what we do.

Dr. Jenicke came to us running a single-doctor practice with two hygienists and a whole lot of untapped potential. She was working hard, probably too hard and knew something needed to change.

One of the first things our coach Connie Simmons noticed was that Dr. Jenicke was doing all of the exam notes herself. Every hygiene patient. Every one of her own patients. Every single day. She was spending hours on documentation every evening after an already full day in the chair.

Connie worked with the hygiene team to take ownership of their own exam documentation and not only did that give the doctor her evenings back, it actually improved the quality of the notes because the hygienists are with the patient longer and have deeper insight into what they're seeing.

Dr. Jenicke got back four to five hours of her week. Every week.

The team walked away with renewed confidence, improved consistency in patient care, and perio production saw dramatic increases across the board.

This is what happens when a practice decides to fully invest in their hygiene department. The clinical results follow. The team culture follows and the doctor finally gets to breathe a little.

Want to hear it straight from Dr. Jenicke? Watch her share her experience in her own words, link to the full video testimonial in the comments.

If you have a foundation and just need ongoing coaching and accountability, the IH Success Hub is built for that.

And if you're ready to go all in and want the fastest path to transformation, that's Elevate.

There's really no wrong place to begin. The right starting point is just the one that meets you where you are.
