When the world goes wonky, it can be tempting to isolate, yet I hope you will take shelter in togetherness within safe and affirming spaces.

As it turns out, simply being with someone offering a caring presence can help to regulate our nervous systems through something known as coregulation. In safe relationships and communities, our bodies have a chance to shift out of fight/flight/freeze/fawn mode and into renewing emotional modes of being that help us feel good through the release of endorphins, oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin.

Need a safe and affirming community? I hope you will reach out, as you are worthy of support, care, and connection.

Powerful research from the good folx at HeartMath confirms what many of us have long suspected— that our hearts are interconnected. Not only do we know that the energetic field of the heart is up to 3 meters, we also know that the magnetic frequency of the heart is the same as the magnetic frequency of the earth.

If you have ever felt like you are one person who cannot possibly make a difference in the world when you are sitting alone in your car or home, I hope this brings you hope. You can literally breathe love, care, or compassion through the area of your heart and then radiate it to yourself and others, and it will make a measurable difference in the world.

You matter, your life matters, your breath matters, and your heart matters. Thank you for being you.

Marginalization is trauma, discrimination is trauma, hate is trauma. When we find ourselves face-to-face with these realities, our bodies jump into high gear to protect us from potential harm.

Our hearts beat faster and with less flexibility, we sweat, our bodies release things like adrenaline, norepinephrine, and cortisol to help us survive, and we launch into fight/flight/freeze/fawn responses so that we can make it to the next moment.

These experiences and lived realities are not things anyone is born equipped to cope with, as they are things nobody should even have to encounter, making them traumatic by nature.

So, if you have been seeking support and hoping for validation on that, please know that you are in good company. Our shared experiences of trauma based on marginalization are why it is so important to seek trauma recovery spaces where we can talk freely about how what is going on in the world is impacting what is happening inside of us as we make our way through daily life

Healing is political for people holding multiple marginalized identities, which is why we cannot have trauma recovery spaces that are divorced from politics, social action, social justice, and social change.

We hold the trauma of our experiences of marginalization in our bodies, and in the neural pathways our brains have developed to help us survive.

Having our experiences of marginalization validated in healing spaces by others who know what it is like and who share our values is vital to the healing process. Growing in our ability to use our voices and lives as agents of change on behalf of marginalized folx is also integral to healing and creates a world with less trauma for everyone.

Making our way through the world with multiple marginalized identities is traumatizing because hate is traumatizing. It causes our bodies to respond as if they are constantly running from a bear, stuck in trauma response mode to help us survive.

Because of this, working towards improved human rights and politics goes hand in hand with our healing journeys. Working towards a world that is more inclusive and affirming of all means a world where simply existing isn’t as much of a trauma, and we are all worthy of that.

No matter what you have ever been told by toxic religious environments or people, please know that everything about you and your sexuality is sacred.

Your sexuality is a channel for connection, self-expression, healing, love, and oneness.

For every trauma that has harmed you in this area, and for every act of bigotry that has stung, please know that you are worthy of an over abundance of care, compassion, love, safety, and healing in response.

Sending hugs and celebration to my friends and clients within the trans community today! Your life makes the world a better place, and I am so glad you are here. You are worthy of celebration, of action to make the world a better place, and of spaces to heal, thrive, and shine. Thank you for being you!

What if there was something very simple you could do that might save a life? I have something for you— ask what someone’s chosen name and pronouns are and then honor them without question.

According to one study of trans and nonbinary youth, this simple act reduced su***de attempts by half. HALF! So please, make the effort to care, to ask, to respect, and to use the correct pronouns, as it really could save a life.

Walking into or logging into an affirming space feels like an enormous exhale in a world where we are not always sure how safe it is to be ourselves, how supported we will be, or if we will be celebrated.

Finally, we arrive someplace where we can share freely and authentically with others who are doing the same thing. We can receive support from others who have been there and know what it is like to navigate life with intersectional identities, and who can encourage us in our gifts and dreams.

Everyone is worthy of being seen and supported for who they are at their core. I hope you have spaces like that in your life today, and that you will reach out for connection if you don’t. We are meant to walk this journey together, and support is available.

Hey friends, consider this your reminder that you are worthy of nourishment and that you do not need to earn your food.

I hope that you will choose something delicious to savor today, maybe one of your favorite foods. Let it bring you joy that’s free from judgment or shame. Let yourself delight in the simple pleasure of the tastes, textures, and smells of an extra special treat.

Something about trying to survive in a world that doesn’t always affirm who you are can make every task or effort feel like an emergency.

If you get caught in the hamster wheel of urgency, panic, and scrambling to make it another day, you are not alone.

You are also worthy of care and compassion, of times to gently pause and recharge your batteries until joy begins to bubble to the surface again.

What is one thing that you can do, savor, or enjoy for even a few moments today that is likely to bring a smile to your face? It can be something small, simple, and easy. You are worth it.
