Types of Hauntings:
Residual Haunting - Residual hauntings, also known as restligeists (German loan word for restlich meaning “residual” and geist meaning “ghost”), are repeated playbacks of auditory, visual, olfactory, and other sensory phenomena that are attributed to a traumatic event, life-altering event, or a routine event of a person or place. Like an echo or a replay of past events. Like a videotape or tape player playing over and over again. Paranormal investigators/researchers believe that a residual haunting does not directly involve a spiritual entity that is aware of the living world. They do not interact or respond with it.
Intelligent Haunting – (Also known as a classic or traditional haunting) A haunting in which a spiritual entity is aware of the living world and interacts with or responds to it. Paranormal investigators/researchers believe that these entities will communicate with the living by talking, showing themselves visually, moving inanimate objects such as furniture or toys, touching the living, etc.
Poltergeist Haunting - German for “noisy ghost”. A paranormal manifestation that is generally centered around an individual that typically includes inanimate objects moving or being thrown about, sentient noises (such as impaired knocking, pounding, banging or scratching), seeing unexplained shadows, and on some occasions, physical attacks on those witnessing the events. The theory is that one individual can cause a haunting without meaning to do so. Usually the individual that is responsible for a poltergeist haunting is an adolescent going through puberty, or an individual that has been in a traumatic event or an individual that is depressed/stressed.
Demonic Haunting - Demons are one of the known inhuman entities out there. Fortunately, they are an extremely rare occurrence. They are usually very easy to identify as long as they are not hiding or posing as something else. With demonic hauntings you will notice a revolting stench similar to rotted flesh or sulfuric acid. Other factors associated with demonic hauntings are deep unexplained growling sounds, They can shove/push/hit/scratch the person they are focused on, they will try to break down a person mentally and physically in hopes of possession, and once they have been invited into a person or place, they are extremely hard to get rid of. Most demonic hauntings result in an exorcism.
Trigger Haunting – A trigger haunting is when an
entity is attached to a certain object, place, or person. Usually with an object, the entity may have once owned it in their previous life. When it involves a place, the entity may have once lived there or worked there. When it involves a person, It could be a family member that is trying to relay a message.
