I've been showing dogs a long time. I don't use much product in the coats of the dogs I show (maybe some hairspray for windy outdoor shows) because I strongly believe the dogs should be shown as naturally as possible and according to the standard for the breed. A dog show, after all, is a venue to show our breeding stock and have it evaluated by experts. Genetic traits are the most important. If you hide faults by overgrooming, the dog wins, people breed to it, you're only doing your breed a big disservice. I'm tempted to overgroom sometimes but my values, beliefs and respect for the sport stop me. I call that moment of weakness going to the dark side.

Having said that I'm still surprised and really curious how people get coats to look so artificial (I'm also amazed and disappointed when judges fall for it and select those artificial looking dogs, but that's a whole different topic). How do they get the coats looking like they're plastic, super shiny, unnaturally white, etc?

I stayed at The New Yorker hotel when I went to the Westminster dog show this year, but NEVER AGAIN! They charged me $150 each day I was there for "deep cleaning", presumably because of the dog in the room. Which is fine if it were a one-time fee after i left. I know, for a fact, that no one came into that room the entire time I was there. I had the "Do Not disturb" sign on the door all the time and towels were left outside the door. I've tried many, many times to contact the hotel about this by calling, leaving messages, e-mail, etc. I haven't gotten a return call or e-mail! I've spoken with people on the phone and they forward me to phones that ring on and are never picked up. I'm angry. If they think I'm giving up they are very mistaken! I will never stay there again and I advise no one else should either. Westminster Kennel Club needs to choose another host hotel!

I had to cancel my trip to the Clermont KC shows this weekend due to my dog having mild complications with her pregnancy. All my clients were extremely understanding and great about it. I really appreciate all of you!

Novi shows were good to us. Gemma (GSP) got her first major. Zella (MAS) finished her CH & earned GCH major the next day. Sailor (malinois) won BOB all 3 days. Bravo (Sibe) won Select Dog both days. Briar (Flatcoat) won Select bitch one day. Abner (WPG) didn't have competition but he was fun to show.

Zella finished her CH this weekend at the Novi shows with her final major!! The next day, first time as a special, she was awarded Best Opposite S*x for a 4 point major toward her GCH and specials defeated. So proud of her.
