Honored to attend and participate in the State of Child Care panel at the Born to Teach Conference in Atlanta!

It was a meaningful conversation as we discussed the current state of child care, funding, advocacy, policy, and strategies to strengthen and sustain our profession. I'm grateful for the opportunity to share my perspective alongside other leaders who are committed to advancing early childhood education.

The work continues, and so does my commitment to ensuring family child care educators have a voice at every table.

My goal is not just to inspire, but to equip Family Child Care executives with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to lead, advocate, and build thriving businesses.

I believe Family Child Care is a powerful vehicle for economic mobility. When educators understand business strategy, funding, policy, leadership, and financial planning, they are better positioned to create wealth, build assets, strengthen their programs, and leave a lasting legacy for their families and communities.

Through my work, I provide technical assistance, training, coaching, and strategic support to Family Child Care educators, child care agencies, staffed family child care networks, associations, and early childhood organizations across the country.

I have the privilege of speaking all across the country, but there is truly nothing like presenting in my home state of Texas.

Thank you to the entire Educational First Steps team for inviting me to serve as a guest speaker at the Annual Conference, Building Blocks for Success, in Dallas, Texas.

I had the opportunity to present one of my signature sessions, Child Care, Federal Funding, Policy & Advocacy: How It Works and Why It Matters.

Understanding how child care is funded and how policy decisions are made is especially critical during these times. As our field continues to navigate workforce challenges, funding uncertainties, and increasing demands, it is more important than ever for early childhood educators to understand the systems that impact their businesses, the children they serve, and the families who rely on them.

Child care is not just a service it is an essential part of our economy and the foundation upon which children, families, and communities thrive. When we understand policy and funding, we strengthen our ability to advocate for the future of our profession and the families we serve.

Thank you again to Educational First Steps for creating a space for learning, leadership, and meaningful conversations that strengthen early childhood education across Texas.

I was honored to attend the The Early Education Empowerment Conference in Rhode Island and facilitate a session during the Leadership Track titled "Child Care, Federal Funding, Policy & Advocacy: How It Works and Why It Matters."

The session focused on helping early childhood leaders better understand the child care funding landscape, policy-making process, and the critical role advocacy plays in shaping the future of our profession.

When early childhood educators understand how policy is created and how funding flows through the system, they are better equipped to advocate for children, support families, strengthen their programs, and influence meaningful change in their communities.

My first field trip was to the Fort Worth Zoo, and my mama was right there beside me.

It's been four years since she departed this earth, but her impact on my life continues every single day.

She was my very first employee. She made it possible for me to complete my associate's and bachelor's degrees by running my family child care program while I attended classes. She stepped in whenever I needed to attend early childhood meetings, trainings, and leadership opportunities. She filled the gaps so I could grow.

Because of her love, sacrifice, and support, I was able to develop into the early childhood leader, advocate, and influencer I am today.

There's so much more to my story, but today I'm sharing just a glimpse. 🩷

And by the way, those babies in this picture have grown into amazing young people:

• Twins Z and Zae – U.S. Navy servicemen
• Lil Reggie – College Scholar Athlete
• Kobe – High School Scholar Athlete (recently received his first college offer!)
• AJ – Graduates high school today and earned a full football scholarship to college
• Kevee – College student on a full academic scholarship
• DJ – High School Scholar

Early childhood education matters. The work we do lays the foundation for lifelong success. What may seem like a small moment in a child's life can have a lasting impact for years to come.

Learning happens in family child care. Love happens in family child care. Impact happens in family child care.

Family child care educators are helping shape future scholars, athletes, leaders, service members, entrepreneurs, and change-makers every single day.

Thank you, Mama, for helping me build a legacy that continues to grow through the lives of the children and families that we have been blessed to serve. 🩷

I had a wonderful time attending and presenting the keynote at the Family Child Care and Center Enrichment Foundation Wellness Conference in North Carolina.

This conference focused on the health, wellness, and overall well-being of family child care educators. Prioritizing wellness is essential to preventing burnout, sustaining high-quality care, and ensuring educators can continue to thrive both personally and professionally.

Thank you to Vantoinette Savage and the entire FCCEF team for hosting such a meaningful event and for your commitment to supporting and uplifting family child care educators. It was an honor to be part of this important conversation.
