One of the largest wineries in North Carolina is Shelton Vineyards, with a fantastic blend of whites and red wines grown on their Yadkin Valley property. The great thing about Shelton is not only their wine, but the great schedule of concerts throughout the year, a fantastic wedding venue, and a fabulous restaurant right on the premises- the Harvest Grill! On the closest exit on I-77, Shelton also has built a Hampton Inn right near the winery. What a great 5-star experience. See the full review at www.ncwineryexplorer.com.

For a really different winery experience, try Slightly Askew Winery, located near downtown Elkin, North Carolina, about an hour and a half north of Uptown Charlotte, NC. Winemaker Walt Tayloe (pictured in the black shirt on the right) uses local grapes from the Yadkin Valley, as well as international varieties in producing a dozen great dry wines, as well as a huge variety of sweet wines from various fruits. Be sure to visit Raffaldini Vineyards & Winery, a five-star winery near Statesville, North Carolina, about an hour and 15 mins. from Uptown Charlotte. You will feel like you have been transported to Tuscany! The Italian tasting villa sits high on a ridge with the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance- what a great romantic spot, or a great place to just spend a summer afternoon! Check out the new review of Treehouse Vineyards in Monroe. While they carry mostly sweet wines, they do produce a couple of drinkable dry wines, from the Yadkin Valley of NC. And they have great bands and entertainment, including a monthly Latin Night, which is a huge DJ dancefest! You can even rent the treehouses overnight! See the review at www.ncwineryexplorer.com!!!

We reviewed RayLen Winery in Mocksville, right off I-40. The Category 5 blend is perhaps the best NC wine we have ever tasted- a blend of the 5 reds they grow- fantastic bouquet. The barrel chardonnay was smooth, the sauvignon blanc was crisp. Great place to enjoy a glass of wine!!!

We recently reviewed Banner Elk Winery in beautiful Banner Elk, NC. They have two great blends- Banner Elk White, which is a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Viognier, and Banner Elk Red, a blend of Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. Grapes are from the nearby Yadkin Valley- check it out!!! (See photo above).
