I wanted to share some great resources. The Virginia Fusion Center has their Shield Program which allows you to sign up to receive alerts and emails about security/safety concerns. The website also has "resources" for things like active shooter response, church security , etc. Additionally, you can report suspicious activities (even anonymously) through the SARs link. The website is: https://fusion.vsp.virginia.gov/

Also, there is a "see something, send something" app which allows you to report suspicuous activity. You can even upload pictures. This is a good option for those situations where people feel like something is going on but don't know if any actual law has been broken. It's available on both iPhone and android platforms.

A fusion center is a collaborative effort of state and federal agencies working in conjunction with local partners to share resources, expertise, and/or information to better identify, detect, prevent, and respond to terrorist and criminal activity utilizing an all crimes/all hazards approach.

I took some time to conduct some personal fi****ms training today. I focused on speed and accuracy by doing timed drills. All of the drills were conducted from four yards using an 8 inch paper plate as the target. For the first drill, I loaded three rounds in a magazine and placed it on the table. I also placed my G***k 22 on the table with the slide locked to the rear. I then faced away from the target, turned down range on the command of "threat", picked up the firearm and magazine, loaded, and fired all three rounds in six seconds or less. I conducted this drill a total of three times, firing a total of nine rounds.

The second drill was exactly like the first except I had to fire three rounds and then conduct a reload and shoot three additional rounds in 12 seconds or less. I did this drill three times as well, for a total of 18 rounds and three reloads.

The third drill builds on the first two by adding a malfunction drill. It was set up just like the second drill, except I had my wife load both magazines with three live rounds and a randomly placed snap cap (dummy round) in each. I had to to fire somr rounds, clear the malfunction, fire the remaining rounds, reload, fire rounds, clear another malfunction, and fire the remaining rounds in 15 seconds less. Again, this was done three times for a total of 18 rounds, three reloads, and six malfunction drills! Getting those reps in.

I saw thia shared by someone else and thought it was good stuff.......

Put your car keys beside your bed at night.

Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents, your Dr's office, the check-out girl at the market, everyone you run across. Put your car keys beside your bed at night.

If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.

This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage.

If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the burglar/rapist won't stick around. After a few seconds, all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there. This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.

This can also be used if working outside and you get hurt. You can activate the car alarm and then peopke in the house will know there's a problem.

We had a great training day yesterday! First, I got to spend a few hours in the morning conducting active shooter training with members of the security team of a local church. Then in the afternoon, I got to teach a concealed carry course and then spend some time shooting at the range! All in all, a great day.

Enjoyed getting to speak with the women of The Well Armed Woman's group this weekend in Appomattox. There were about 100 or so people in attendance and several vendors on site as well.
