Meet My Why. đź’š

We all have our own individual “why” when it comes to the profession we’ve chosen.

Mine is my grandmother, affectionately known as Cappy.

I have looked up to this amazing woman my entire life. She was strong, funny, fiercely independent, and, as they say, full of p**s and vinegar.

About 20 years ago, Cappy was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome and became paralyzed from the neck down.

This mighty little woman fought her way through hospitalization, rehabilitation, and countless hours of physical therapy—ultimately regaining her ability to walk and live independently again.

I can still remember hearing her chide her physical therapists when she thought they were going too easy on her!

Her goal was simple: get back to her farm.

With her determination—and the help of so many dedicated members of the senior care community—she did exactly that.

She spent the years that followed tending her many flower gardens, riding her golf cart along the fence lines, and reporting with great urgency any repairs that needed to be made.

She got back to living the life she loved.

A few weeks ago, my family lost our matriarch.

But Cappy will never truly be absent from my life, because her legacy shines so brightly in the eyes of every client I meet.

They may not all experience the same remarkable recovery she did, but I know without a single doubt that their lives can be enriched by the presence of compassionate, dedicated Caregivers who help them hold on to their independence, dignity, joy, and the things that make life uniquely theirs.

So, in short, thank you, Cappy.

Thank you for everything you taught me over the years.

Thank you for showing me what strength and determination look like.

And thank you for leading me, without even knowing it, into a profession that feeds my soul each and every day.

You will always be my why. đź’š
