Leadership.
I'm sitting at the table, pouring over resumes, conducting interviews, listening to what is often unspoken. Assessing personality types and varying communication styles, all in hopes of placing people on specific tasks to work together as one. All united by our love for children and change.
Multiple people with certain skillsets, when combined, are creative and effective beyond measure.
2020 is a year of great growth, mindset shifts, and abilities. It is spent developing self and others, honing listening skills, and trust in other's abilities to move the vision forward.
The stretch is immense. The learning curve vast. It is seeking out mentors, taking classes, bootstrapping a vision, and literally breathing life into infant forms. It is speaking so passionately about the future you envision that others can clearly see it as well.
My ultimate goal, as a leader, is to lead from behind. To put teams in place, so strong in their ability to work together as one that I attend meetings and listen, learning from them. I chime in only when necessary. The goal is to build a team so strong that, when others walk in, they have no idea who the "leader" really is because everyone is a boss in their respective area of expertise.
To empower them to use their voice over and over again. To let them know, "I need to hear from you. I value your opinion. You were places on the team for moments like this." Shine.
I am the strength of my team. Some days it's them who keep me going.
"There are others who's lives are tied to your dreams."-Tyler Perry
Lead well.
I step into this roll knowing it has to happen this way. By God's design. So, I study. I pray. I ask lots of questions. I allow myself to be human. I push myself to be brave.
Labor pains. Growing pains.
Not everyone will see the vision. Some will show up simply because it is you who is leading the vision. You have to learn to tell the difference.
The spirit of rejection. Some may not sign up right away. Others will simply walk away, and not always as quietly as one might hope.
Leaders have the ability to handle high levels of STRESS and to focus on the problems versus the person.
So, character must be built, often trial by fire.
I am building, brick by brick.
I am learning. One YouTube, class, mentor, book, life lesson at a time.
I cry. I give myself grace. I hit the reset button. I fight the mantle. Then, I grow.
"Teamwork is the ability to work TOGETHER toward a common vision. The ability to direct INDIVIDUAL accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results." -Andrew Carnegie
Put on your game face because, soon, it will be time for you to get off the bench. You will no longer be allowed to hide at the back of the crowd.
