If your grassroots nonprofit is "typical", you are probably sitting on more fundraising potential than you realize — and you may not have a system to find it, qualify it, and move it forward. That's exactly what "The Prospecting Playbook" is designed to fix.

Join us on May 19th and 20th for a two-part workshop series on individual donor prospecting — led by Christy Smith-Hall, CFRE, MNA, one of the sharpest minds in nonprofit fundraising.

Over two mornings (9:00 AM–Noon each day), you will learn how to:

-Research and identify your best prospects
-Set goals and build a real donor pipeline
-Use technology to work smarter
-Develop and implement a prospecting plan
-Turn strangers into supporters

This is hands-on, practical, and built for nonprofit leaders who are doing the work — not just reading about it.

Space is limited. Reserve your spot now at https://bit.ly/3P4Nged Tag someone who needs to fill their donor pipeline.

Youth development work is undervalued in the nonprofit sector — and it's time we talked about it.

In my work with youth-serving organizations, I've noticed a consistent pattern: salary structures for youth development roles tend to run lower than comparable positions at other nonprofits. And it's not just compensation. I know of at least one state agency that caps funding for youth-serving organizations at a significantly lower level than it does for adult-serving ones.

This is a problem — because delivering quality outcomes for young people requires just as much skill, effort, and resources as any other area of human services. Often more. Evidence-based youth programming is rigorous, specialized work, and it deserves to be funded accordingly.

So I'm curious: is this your experience too? Is this a sector-wide pattern, or does it vary by region, funding source, or focus area?
Because if we're serious about the well-being of our communities, we have to be serious about investing in young people. The cost of underfunding youth development doesn't disappear — it just shows up later, in systems that are far more expensive to run.

Never underestimate the power of investing in capacity building. Done right, it can shave light years off your learning curve.

I recently had a conversation with a leader who shared something that stopped me in my tracks. When this leader brings up concepts like a capital development fund or a program logic model with their team, the team has no idea what they're talking about. It wasn't lost on me that this is an organization that has been in existence for over 40 years.

And here's what makes it even more striking — this leader learned more about nonprofit best practices and frameworks in 3 months of working together than their organization had absorbed in over four decades. That's not a reflection of them, or their organization. That's a reflection of a sector that has long underinvested in leadership development and left people to figure it out alone. It doesn't help when organizations treat leadership development as optional rather than essential. The good news? That pattern can be broken. And it starts with a decision to take action.

That gap becomes even more costly when government grants are on the table. You cannot write a winning government grant if your organization doesn't understand the infrastructure behind it — the logic models, the fund development strategy, the compliance frameworks that funders expect to see.

That's exactly why the Nonprofit Utopia Impact Circle exists. This month, we are going deep on the Government Grants Blueprint: Write, Win & Deliver — giving you the tools, the strategy, and the community to compete for the funding your mission deserves. In past months we focused on nonprofit compliance, logic models and developing a compelling case for support.

The knowledge exists. The community exists. The only question is whether you're ready to show up. Take the plunge at
