Extending heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Jerry L. Lewis.
Mr. Lewis, a Chicago native, husband, father, and a pillar in Chicago construction, as a longtime developer and contractor lost his life from a senseless act of crime and violence on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. He was targeted, shot, and killed while walking on Madison Ave. near the United Center in broad daylight.
“Jerry Lewis would give anyone the shirt off his back. Born and raised on the West Side, Lewis loved everyone around him, didn’t believe in violence and dedicated himself to giving back, particularly to the community he grew up in, his family said.
In recent years, Jerry Lewis had been involved in the 1901 Project, the $7 billion development plan to remake the Near West Side neighborhood near the United Center.
He was particularly invested in ensuring minority-owned businesses had an opportunity to gain access to the 1901 Project, according to Traci Quinn, founder and CEO of Pink Hats Construction & Development Group, a women-centered construction firm.” ~ Chicago Tribune
