Two S*x Scenes with Female Character
A cloistered young woman who has been sheltered from the outside world, Kiyo has been treated as a porcelain doll by her protective family. When her brother is killed, she must step up and become the heir to a great Japanese corporation. An American Tutor is brought in to educate her on the outside world.
As the first real peer relationship in her life, the two girls grow from teacher/student to friendship to a romantic relationship.
This character has a great development arc that allows for great growth. The ideal actor will be capable of exploring this development.

Domestic Violence Victim
Catherine is an American who is hired as a tutor for a sheltered Japanese woman. She has to find ways to connect with her pupil, while adjusting to the strange customs of a traditional Japanese estate. Her compassion for Kiyo grows and develops as she struggles with the constraints of the patriarchal society. Their friendship organically grows into a romance that runs counter to the traditional values of her employer.

Mother is an elegant Japanese woman. A largely non-verbal role, she is observant and deliberate in her actions. She is the humanizing element for the Father's character development and add wisdom with her sparse dialogue.
Japanese Father - Supporting / MALE / 50 TO 60 / Japanese

Male Supporting - 50s - Japanese/Asian - Japanese Language Proficient
Father is the head of a large Japanese corporation with traditional values. He is strong and stoic.
Over the course of the film he is humanized from a one-dimensional character to a fully realized part of the story, so the character has a solid development arc.
Groom - Supporting / MALE / 30 TO 40 / Asian, Japanese

Male Supporting - 30s - Japanese/Asian - Japanese Language Proficient
Groom is the villain. He is brash, arrogant, and violent, under an air of pretentious refinement. The character has very little development, but does embrace Japanese duplicity (think Omura in Last Samurai).

Story Line: When a young woman becomes heir to a great Japanese company, she must learn the ways of the west, so that she may one day continue her family's legacy. She has lived her entire life on the traditional family estate.
To bridge the ancient and the modern worlds, an American tutor is brought to the estate to teach her western language, conversation, and culture. The two girls develop a bond that grows until it threatens the arranged marriage to the son of another noble Japanese family.
