I have to shout out the real VIP of the night, my mom ✨

I was able to wear a dress that she gave me for this event. I was thinking how blessed I am to be able to wear this dress that was given to me by my mom…for this specific occasion. Thank you, God✨

I also had a wardrobe malfunction (bc of course I wouldn’t be me without a wardrobe malfunction on such an important night🙄😩). Literally just as I was getting ready to walk out the door, Houston, we had a dang problem 😩 and just like that, my mom had to come to the rescue😩😂✨

I feel blessed to be able to share moments like this with her, bc when I’m backed against a wall she be right there too! I’m grateful, and I do not take it for granted! 💪✨

You really can do anything in this life. You just have to be willing to become that person✨

Teaching math and running and Organization are sooo different, so I had to be willing to be a beginner. I had to become more curious. I had to practice A LOT of new habits. I had to be…different. While the concept is pretty simple, I do understand that it isn’t easy. However, I also KNOW FOR A FACT that is possible.✨

You will in fact get exactly what you ARE out of this life. Knowing this is so powerful bc what it says to me is all I have to do is focus on me (which happens to be the ONLY thing I can control). Knowing that I’M always going to be my greatest advantage is GAME CHANGING.✨

Any young person I encounter will know the same, bc not only am I able to talk the talk, but I’m also walking this walk right with them. This season of my life is about leading by example. I expect my kids to be about BIG ACTION bc I know it’s in them. So guess what I gotta be about? BIG ACTION! Let’s Get It💪✨

What an honor it is to be honored for doing the work that brings me so much joy✨

This was such a beautiful surprise. I got the call last month that someone ( I still don’t know who) recommended me to be honored for the work I do with . The organization did their due diligence and apparently agreed lol! I found out that I will be 1 of 4 “Philanthropists” being honored in April at their Gala.✨

It’s so funny because I’ve never thought to call myself a philanthropist before. I actually don’t call myself a lot of things bc the way I see it, I’m just doing the work. But, that makes me even more grateful for the people who see me and literally advocate for me in rooms that I sometimes don’t even know exist or that I belong in.✨

I did the venue walkthrough with some of the investors for this gala last week, and I found myself asking myself “how the hell did I get here?” lol. From doing teen outreach programs, coaching basketball, teaching math….to this? A philanthropist? If you know me then you know I’m not a person who chases titles at all. I just follow my heart and listen to the titles that others use to “identify” me. Lbvs.✨

That said, I know this has been many years in the making. If I’m being honest most of those years are just a blurr to me, so i find myself having to remind myself that I really do this work. This year is about confidently naming the lanes I occupy, because apparently I wear many titles. While none of them actually define me(the person), it is about time that I accurately name the titles that define THE WORK. This is 100% Philanthropy, so I’m honored to own It✨

For those of you who continue to speak my name in rooms, THANK YOU! Whoever dropped my name in this room really did their big one!💪🏽✨

Support doesn’t always have to look like you reaching into your own pockets to donate. Support also looks like speaking my name in rooms that are filled with the folks ready to support with their funds/ resources 🙏🏽✨
