Over 100 faculty & staff joined the Fall 2025 iCEP Academy to strengthen international student support. From this amazing cohort, 12 were selected as iCEP Stars—our campus change agents dedicated to building a more international-student-friendly experience.

Today we’re celebrating Lauren Pelletier, Administrative Manager in Computer Science at UAlbany.

As a first-gen student who began her education far from home, Lauren understands the excitement and uncertainty that come with stepping into a new environment. That experience fuels her passion for helping international students feel welcomed, understood, and empowered.

Through iCEP, Lauren expanded her cultural awareness and deepened her approach to supporting the diverse student community she serves every day.

🌟 iCEP Star Spotlight: Valerie Goris 🌟

“I was raised in the Dominican Republic and moved to the U.S. as a high school junior. Having experienced cultural shock and the need to quickly adapt, supporting other international students is deeply personal to me.” — Valerie Goris

Valerie works in HR at UAlbany supporting employment eligibility and tax compliance. Even though her role isn’t student-facing, she joined iCEP Academy to better understand and uplift the international students she encounters.

Through iCEP, Valerie gained tools to:
✨ Connect with students who may not have a support system
✨ Build deeper compassion across cultural differences
✨ Understand the challenges of adapting to a new country

She reminds us:
