My story starts in 2016 when I rented a short term apartment and started having health issues. I didn't know at the time it was due to the mold I found in my bedroom. Fast forward to 2021 I moved into a moldy house but was not aware yet. In 2022 I had covid19 and subsequently long covid19 my health took a downward spiral. My son and I were diagnosed with CIRS (chronic inflammatory response syndrome) and I also was diagnosed with anaplasmosis. Now in 2025 I am facing my final remediation, small particle cleaning and rebuild of my home. I have made all the mistakes and am here to share my learnings and offer consulting services so that you don't have to make those mistakes and you can heal with me.

Here in the Midwest (I'm in IL) Spring has sprung early and temperatures are warmer. We have had a lot of rain the last few days and it's muggy outside.

It's a good reminder to start checking the humidity levels inside your home and especially if you have a basement. Spring, Summer and Fall I recommend to keep your indoor humidity less than 55%.

Here is a picture of the humidity level in my basement this morning - my checklist today:

-Turning off the humidistat if you have one
- Turning on the basement dehumidifier
- If you humidity in the upper levels of the time are higher consider turning off those dehumidifiers

When facing the fact you need to remove mold from your home the first step you take is to make a plan.

Where will you stay? How much of your home will be under containment? How will you handle your things?

I'm going to make a series of videos talking about practical steps and advice through the whole process.

Working on my own personal project this month - my 5th and final mold Remediation in my garage. I have not used the garage in over a year and have cut off air flow into the home so we could heal properly.

The drywall compound in my garage tested positive for asbestos. Before 1970s, asbestos was a widely used product in homes especially in areas the builder wanted a fire rated product like garages and above furnaces.

Asbestos fibers can be as small as a mycotoxin from mold so I took the same preventative safety measures in my home as I would with mold and ensured any location with air flow was enclosed.

My CIRS reaction from the furnace mystery solved. When the furnace was installed the exhaust pipe was leaking a little water and I had it fixed but in the craziness of all my mold remediations and rebuild I forgot this detail.

First step was to remove what I could with a HEPA vacuum, wipe with a microfiber cloth and Benefact decon 30, then with fragrance free 7th generation soap and distilled water on a microfiber cloth

Step 2 will be to have an HVAC technician to remove the parts and clean better. replace the felt if can.

Step 3 clean/dust the home

Step 4 Clean the ducts
