Leadership takes courage. It's one thing to have a clear plan - you need this to move your next initiative forward. It's another thing to use data collection to create delay.

Many community programs begin with a strong idea...

Fewer begin with a strong process.

Why is your organization running its community engagement program?

Is it:
- A new leader with a new vision?
- A regulatory requirement?
- Brand positioning?
- A growth strategy?

Or something else? The best community engagement programs start with the community in mind.

And the most effective programs have structure and integration - they aren't just delegated to small team's department.

Read on to learn how to break free from disconnected tactics and frustrating results:

Insights for building community engagement. Learning why strategy, community research, process iteration, and clear metrics are key to an effective program.

Step 1 in effective community engagement - get real life feedback.

Not just from the people you are trying to solve the problem for (although that is critical), but from the spectrum of organizations that impact the community.

Solutions and partnerships exist in surprising places.

Good intentions aren't enough to drive real change (or real revenue).

Without a solid plan, community engagement initiatives often fall into the trap of "random acts of kindness."

They feel good, but they lack the organizational alignment and data needed to survive long-term.

Stop risking your resources on unproven tactics.

Recently, GoFundMe Pro's launched unauthorized nonprofit pages and created big headlines.

Unfortunately, their first apology fell flat, revealing how little they understood their community’s priorities.

The first communication strategy did not align with their stakeholders.

Initially, GoFundMe Pro defended the initiative with minor concessions. It took 72 hours to come to a complete reversal, delivering what should have been the immediate response.

The incident reveals a common misconception: community engagement is simply a marketing function rather than core business intelligence.

Every business has a community, regardless of whether you call them a clients, customers, or a target market.

Community engagement is not simply feel-good outreach.

It is about testing if your product actually solves real problems, understanding what your community truly needs, and building support before you launch.

I help organizations build integrated engagement frameworks that connect product or project development with design.

Let's connect to discuss strengthening your next community initiative.

If your organization is thinking about launching a new community engagement program, read on to avoid a common issue that leads to less than stellar results.

Well-funded, high-performing organizations launch impact programs with all the right intentions. The programs still stall within a year.

The underlying assumption that drives this reality: leaders assume a new community initiative can skip the startup phase because it's housed within an established organization.

It can't.

Whether you're launching a foundation, advisory board, or community program, the development work still needs to happen.

Profound Hope Industries shares the two biggest misconceptions that cause these failures, with guidance on what it takes to bypass these myths.

Insight for launching community impact initiatives. Learn why new programs fail without proper engagement strategy, governance design, and resources.

Do you have a core life experience that drives your work? I have found most mission-focused leaders do.

For me, it was during a college 'gap year.' I was hired to lead faith-based after school programs for low income youth in the public school system.

This non-profit was not grant funded. It was funded by a large, privately held manufacturing company.

The owners also purchased new buses for the middle school, and brought students to their plant to teach them hands-on engineering. The owner and his family even hosted holiday parties for the kids in their home.

They were personally involved in the lives of these pre-teens.

It was the experience that solidified my belief that business can be a tremendous force for good in their communities.

However, just because business can be a force for good doesn't mean it will be. It requires intention from leadership. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working for and with incredible businesses, credit unions and CDFIs actively being change agents in their communities.

I have seen both best practices and pitfalls. And I believe many businesses have untapped potential to do more.

That's why Profound Hope Industries recently launched the H.O.P.E Framework to help businesses create change, without restructuring or losing team engagement.
