We've made big decisions, navigated complicated relationships, stood up for ourselves, and learned that our judgment is pretty darn good.
And then we step onto a tennis court. 🎾
We see a ball land out. We call it.
Our opponent looks at us and says, "Are you SURE?"
Suddenly, we're replaying the ball in our heads.
*Was it out? Did I see it correctly? Does she think I'm cheating?*
Thirty seconds ago, we knew what we saw. Now we're questioning ourselves because someone else questioned us.
**Isn't that fascinating?**
And it happens in so many other ways.
Our doubles partner makes a comment, and we spend the next three games wondering what she meant.
We want to speak up about something, but worry we're making too big a deal out of it.
We play with someone stronger and suddenly feel the need to prove we belong.
Or we spend the drive home replaying a conversation, wondering if we said the wrong thing.
**How can we be so sure of ourselves in life, yet so easily rattled on a tennis court?**
This is one of the most overlooked parts of recreational tennis.
We work on our strokes, strategy, and mental game. But what about the HUMAN side?
The personalities. The expectations. The friendships. The boundaries.
I've known too many women who've started dreading matches, left teams, or even stopped playing because the people side of tennis took away their joy.
We've spent decades learning to trust ourselves.

I've known too many women who've started dreading matches, left teams, or even stopped playing because the people side of tennis took away their joy.
And that genuinely makes me sad.
Tennis should be adding something wonderful to our lives, not taking it away.
The answer isn't becoming harder, colder, or less caring.
It's learning to trust ourselves, speak up when necessary, and be okay when someone disagrees.
It's knowing what deserves a response and what doesn't deserve another minute of our energy.
We can be gracious, fiercely competitive, and completely sure of ourselves.
And learn to handle whatever and whoever tennis throws at us. ❤️
