🌧️🌀 STORM PREP: GET YOUR PLUMBING READY! 🪠
With stormy weather moving into our area, now is a great time to take a few simple steps to protect your home and plumbing system. A little preparation now can save you from a BIG headache later! ⚠️🏠
🪠 BEFORE THE STORM:
🔹 Know where your main water shut-off valve is and make sure it’s accessible. If a pipe breaks, shutting the water off quickly can help prevent major damage.
🔹 Check your outdoor faucets and exposed pipes for leaks, loose connections, or damage.
🔹 Clear drains and gutters of leaves and debris so heavy rain has somewhere to go.
🔹 Keep storm drains and yard drains clear of debris that could cause water to back up.
🔹 Secure anything around outdoor plumbing that could become damaged or blown around during strong weather.
🔹 Check your sump pump, if you have one, and make sure it’s operating properly before the rain arrives.
🔹 Know where your sewer cleanout is located. If you experience a backup, knowing where it is can help a plumber diagnose the problem faster.
🔹 Never ignore a small leak. Storms can turn a minor plumbing issue into a much bigger problem.
🌧️ And remember: Heavy rainfall can put additional pressure on drainage and sewer systems. If you notice slow drains, backups, standing water, unusual plumbing noises, or anything that just doesn’t seem right, don’t wait until it becomes an emergency.
