Hey Dutchess and Putnam County outdoor lovers!

Even in the middle of January, don't drop your guard! Milder winters are the new normal here in the Hudson Valley, and ticks can perk up and become active on any warm day above ~45°F (or even 35–40°F for some activity). Adult deer ticks are still lurking out there, ready to hitch a ride on you, your kids, or your pets.

Lyme disease remains a serious threat — the CDC estimates ~476,000 people are diagnosed and treated each year across the US. New York consistently ranks high, and right here in our backyard, Dutchess and Putnam Counties are major hotspots with some of the highest reported cases in the state (thousands of cases over recent years, per local health data and TickCheck estimates)!

Peak danger from those tiny, poppy-seed-sized nymph ticks hits May–July, but protection starts NOW — especially with those surprise mild days drawing us outdoors.
