Many people think the Law of the Lid applies to teams and organizations. In reality, it begins with the individual.

Each of us has a lid. It may show up in how we think, the risks we avoid, the conversations we delay, or the habits we refuse to examine.

At times, the limitation is not opportunity. It is hesitation. It is self-doubt. It is remaining in patterns that no longer support our growth.

This is where self-reflection becomes necessary.

Are there areas where you have stopped developing?
Are there skills that need attention?
Are there decisions or conversations you have been avoiding?

Progress often begins when we are honest about what is limiting us.

The Law of the Lid invites us to look inward and ask a simple but important question.

Where might my lid be right now?

Behavior awareness shapes team culture.

Many leaders focus on strategy, performance metrics, and productivity, yet overlook one of the most influential factors in leadership: their own behavior.

Communication style, tone, reactions under pressure, and daily interactions all send signals to a team. Over time, those signals shape how people collaborate, respond to challenges, and engage with one another.

John C. Maxwell reminds us that leadership is influence. That influence is not only demonstrated through decisions. It is revealed through behavior.

When leaders become more aware of their behavioral patterns, they begin to understand how their actions impact trust, communication, and team dynamics.

Behavioral awareness helps leaders recognize how they show up in conversations, how they respond to conflict, and how their leadership style influences the culture around them.

When leaders develop this level of awareness, collaboration improves, communication becomes clearer, and teams begin to operate with greater alignment.

Leadership is not only about directing work. It is about understanding the influence of your behavior on the people you lead.

One leadership skill that does not get discussed enough is discernment.

Not every opportunity deserves your yes.
Not every request requires your attention.
Not every responsibility belongs in your bag.

Many leaders carry far more than they should because they feel obligated to say yes to everything placed in front of them. Over time, this creates exhaustion, distraction, and a loss of focus.

Discernment helps leaders pause and ask an important question.
Does this actually belong to me?

Strong leaders understand that leadership is not about carrying everything. It is about knowing what aligns with your role, your priorities, and the impact you are responsible for making.

Leadership requires the wisdom to know what to carry and the courage to release what does not belong to you.

If you are in the local area, I invite you to join us for an exclusive leadership luncheon where we will have honest conversations about leadership, communication, and the responsibilities women leaders carry every day.

This will be an intimate gathering designed for thoughtful dialogue and meaningful connection.

Seats are limited.

One leadership pattern I see often is this: a problem is discussed with everyone except the person directly involved.

This does not only happen in the workplace. It shows up in relationships, friendships, marriages, and even between supervisors and their subordinates.

When concerns are shared everywhere except in the right conversation, confusion grows, credibility begins to erode, and the issue rarely gets resolved.

Strong leaders approach challenges differently. They address concerns directly, communicate with clarity, and handle difficult conversations with professionalism and respect.

Leadership requires the discipline to have the right conversation with the right person at the right time.

That is where real leadership begins.

Where do you see this happening most often, in organizations or in personal relationships?

Today is the first day of spring.

For many of us, that means one thing we have heard our whole lives.

It's time for Spring cleaning.

Every new season invites us to pause and take inventory.

For many women in leadership, this season mirrors what is happening professionally. Some are stepping into new roles. Some are receiving promotions. Others are navigating leadership transitions. Some are starting businesses. Others are closing businesses and redefining their next chapter.

Leadership and life both move through seasons.

Spring reminds us that growth often begins by creating space.

So here is a question worth reflecting on today.

What actually belongs to you in this season?

If this is a season of transition, growth, or recalibration for you as a woman who leads, I invite you to continue the conversation with me.

Many leadership challenges are not strategy problems. They are awareness problems.

One of the most important qualities a leader can develop is self-awareness. It influences how we communicate, how we make decisions, and how we show up for the people we lead. Yet many leaders are not always fully aware of how their behavior impacts those around them.

This is where tools like DISC can be helpful. DISC provides insight into your natural behavioral style, how you tend to respond under pressure, and how others may experience your communication.

When leaders develop this level of awareness, they are better positioned to build trust, strengthen communication, and create healthier team environments.

Take a moment to review the behavioral styles below and see which one resonates with you.

These are the kinds of conversations we will explore at IN HER BAG: Essential Items Only, a professional development luncheon designed to strengthen leadership awareness, communication, and professional growth.

Go ahead and lock in your seat.

This event qualifies as professional development training. You may want to check with your employer to see if they support leadership development opportunities.

Your teamโ€™s behavior often reflects the leadership environment you create.

Are team members engaged, collaborative, and willing to take ownership? Or do they appear withdrawn, hesitant, and reluctant to contribute?

Leaders set the tone for communication, accountability, and trust. The way you lead influences how your team responds, participates, and performs.

Take a moment to reflect. What does your teamโ€™s behavior say about your leadership style?

Many supervisors believe leadership development only happens through formal training.

That is one of the biggest myths.

In many organizations, strong performers are promoted into supervisory roles without being fully prepared to lead people.

When that happens, communication begins to break down, trust weakens, and team performance declines.

Another challenge that is often overlooked is that employees are not always comfortable sharing openly with their immediate supervisor, even though that person is often expected to serve as their coach.

When that dynamic exists, honest feedback and meaningful development conversations become limited.

Leadership development and executive coaching help supervisors strengthen their leadership approach, improve communication, and build stronger teams.

Which leadership myth do you see most often in organizations today?

Women are showing up in many spaces today, yet much of what we carry often goes unseen.

March gives us an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of women in our homes, our communities, and in the work, we do every day.

Over the years, I have learned that self-awareness is important for all of us. It shapes how we communicate, how we respond to the responsibilities around us, and how we show up in our everyday lives.

In this season of my life, I find myself balancing graduation preparations, traveling with my boys for their extracurricular activities, building my business, and completing my internship. Like many women, the list can be full.

Taking a moment to recognize what we are carrying can help us better understand how those responsibilities influence the way we communicate and interact with others.

That is part of the reason I am hosting a small gathering called In Her Bag: Essential Items Only. We are not equipped to carry everything. In this season, it is important to focus on what truly matters and release what does not belong in our bag.

On March 27, a small group of women will gather at The Boathouse in Short Pump for a thoughtful conversation about communication, self-awareness, and the responsibilities we carry in this season of life.

Sometimes the most meaningful conversations happen in small rooms around a table.

Reserve your seat at the table and join the conversation.

Happy International Womenโ€™s Day

Today we celebrate the strength, leadership, and impact of women who continue to lead, influence, and create change in their organizations and communities.

Women carry many responsibilities, but we also carry essential leadership qualities that shape how we communicate, make decisions, and support others.

In honor of this day, I am inviting women leaders to join me for a meaningful conversation at the โ€œIn Her Bag: Essential Items Onlyโ€ Exclusive Leadership Luncheon.

If you are leading a team you did not build and are now responsible for improving performance, this session is for you.

When expectations are unclear and accountability is inconsistent, results stall and credibility is impacted. Working harder will not fix that. Strategic alignment will.

In Lead With Clarity, I will show you how to leverage DISC to reset standards, strengthen accountability, and lead inherited teams with confidence and precision.

The registration link is in the comments.

See you in the room.
