Big changes happened this year as my 19 year old young men embarked on the journey of independence. It was something that needed to happen as we had truly outgrown the home we all lived in together. That being said, as their mama, I realized over the years, I often didn’t want to wait for them to get to the task or chore or have to go behind them to “do it right”. I have changed ways of thinking and currently run things differently with my daughter to hopefully help her in ways I see them struggling as they go out on their own. Today, I spent the day cleaning beside them and teaching them and their roommates how to properly clean and am writing up a basic cleaning routine/schedule to help them stay on top of those tasks as a team. These are the first years of learning how to live with others and no mama cleaning up behind them. Long story short, I was surprised at how well they had prepped, knowing I was coming and how hard they worked while I was there. I forgot to take before pictures of a lot of the spaces but wanted to share here just for a boost of encouragement. If you’re a parent, find ways to release control or wanting things to be “perfect”. Gently teach, hold strong and be persistent. I am positive the way my grandma taught me has helped me in my adult life. 🎉
