Last night while on patrol Officer Karsten recovered a stolen vehicle.
The officer was patrolling the property and noticed that a vehicle he didn't recognize was parked in the area and had no tag on it, but had what appeared to be a paper tag laying on top of the trunk. He got out to investigate and discovered that the steering column had been popped open and it appeared to have been hot-wired. After running the VIN number it was determined to be stolen out of the city of Columbia. The woman who owns it was unavailable by phone so the vehicle was towed to city impound until she can be reached.

Earlyer this evening while out on foot patrol one of our Officers heard gunshots from a couple buildings away. The Officer began running in the direction of the shots. Children from the area playground were running towards the officer and away from the gunfire. The Officer crossed the playground and rounded the corner of the building where he was assisted by residents of the area who while trying to get away still directed the Officer to the shooter and provided a discription. At the other end of the building the Officer confronted the gunman. When confronted the shooter immediately complied with the Officers instructions and was taken into custody. The gun was recoverd at the scene.
