A few days ago, I had a full-blown crash out on Instagram before heading to Hob Lob for more paint and brush cleaner.
I was angry. Discouraged. Ready to throw in the towel.
If youāve spent any time around artists, youāve probably heard the stories. Artwork gets stolen from small creators, copied, run through AI to remove watermarks, resold, and claimed as someone elseās workāall so someone can make a quick dollar. Ever since I started hand-drawing my banner designs, Iāve watched it happen over and over again.
Iāve kept a lot of those frustrations bottled up, and that day I finally exploded. I told my husband and a few banner friends, āI think Iām done.ā
As I was wandering the paint aisle at Hob Lob, I noticed another woman whose outfit looked suspiciously familiarāpaint-covered leggings and an old T-shirt that had clearly seen better days. š
I made a funny comment about how thatās how my leggings look too, and we started talking.
Turns out she was a local mural artist, and genuinely one of the sweetest people Iāve met. We swapped business names, shared painting tips, followed each other online, and went our separate ways. (Painted Mule Art by Kristin Seibold ā yāall go follow her because her work is absolutely incredible)
But that conversation reminded me of something I desperately needed to hear:
Not everyone is out to get you.
Not everyone wants to take from you.
Some people genuinely want to see you succeed.
So instead of quitting, I made a plan. Iām going to keep creating. Keep sharing. Keep building. And Iāll let time sort out the people who are creating because they love it from the people who are just chasing the next trend.
I was ready to put that plan into motionā¦ until I hit one giant roadblock.
Iām about 7,200 followers short. š
All of this to say: I have something really exciting in the works, but I need your help to make it happen.
