Cultures in churches are changing as well. I see a real and healthy authenticity developing. Realizing we are all broken... ministers, leaders, teachers, members... everyone. We're moving from pastoral hospitals where you just come to receive treatment and get "fed and fixed" to being equipped, understood and then launched with repentant and transformed hearts and minds... still struggling in their imperfections. As one author, James S. Garfield, puts it in "Lead Your Tribe Field Guide", it's not about herding cats... it's about sending sons and daughters of the King to be who they were always meant to be... as in Psalm 139:13-16. What has God written in the Book regarding those sitting in our pews? Do we know? Do they know? We're here to help each other open up our Books.

Are you a fountain or a drain? The fountain in our town attracts people during hot summer days to come and be refreshed and relaxed and re-energized. I'm not aware of any towns that have installed drains to attract people to gather together. A drain just doesn't have the same attraction as a fountain. What are the leadership lessons of the fountain?

In athletics, there are competitors and spectators. It's a different world at work. The work and the training often happen at the same time and everyone needs to be involved. No spectators allowed! Good leaders know how to equip people:

1. Watch at first
2. Then, you do it together with them
3. Later, they do it while you watch
4. Finally, they do it while you multiply in someone else

The mission is always to multiply. You can't run the race by yourself.

Is the word "clean" a verb or an adjective? Dr. Tim Elmore advises, "Instead of telling people what to do, lasting leaders describe the outcome they hope for and allow the person to surprise them with their innovation."
