Why are there so many Tree Swallows and Barn Swallows over our Tridens flavus seed fields?

They’re not doing this over our other seed fields, and right now the Tridens is flowering. Are they taking advantage of an abundance of insects around the flowering heads?

We’re curious… what do you think is bringing them in?

Huge thanks to Karla for catching this stunning moment of a monarch (Danaus plexippus) emerging from its chrysalis! 🦋

Known as eclosion, the physical act of breaking through the pupal casing usually takes under two minutes.

Because its wings emerge wet, soft, and crumpled, the monarch must immediately hang upside down to pump fluid through the wing veins to expand them.

Once fully expanded, the wings require 1 to 4 hours to dry and harden before flight is possible.
