This photo made it to our stories, but it deserves a post of its own. 🍯🐝

There’s something special about seeing freshly harvested honey frames loaded into the extractor. After the bees spend weeks collecting nectar, reducing its moisture, and sealing each cell with a layer of wax, it’s time for us to carefully harvest the reward of all their hard work.

These frames are full of 100% raw honey, ready to be spun in the extractor. As the extractor rotates, centrifugal force gently pulls the honey from each comb without damaging the wax, allowing the bees to reuse it and start the process all over again.

Every jar we bottle starts right here, with healthy colonies, hardworking bees, and a whole lot of patience.

🍯 The Most Satisfying Part of Honey Harvest? Breaking the Cappings. 🐝

Before we can extract the honey, we have to remove the thin layer of beeswax that seals each honey cell. These are called cappings.

The bees create this natural wax cap only after the honey has ripened to the perfect moisture level, preserving it just like nature intended. Once the frames are fully capped, we carefully uncap each one, allowing the golden honey hidden inside to flow freely during extraction.

It’s one of our favorite parts of harvest season because it’s the moment months of hard work from the bees and the beekeeper finally comes together. 💛

🌳 Meet the Sourwood Tree! 🍯🐝

If you’ve ever wondered where Sourwood honey comes from, it all starts here.

Right now, these delicate flower buds are already blooming. Sourwood trees only bloom during June and July, giving bees a very short window to collect their nectar. That limited bloom period is one of the reasons Sourwood honey is so rare.

Hive inspections are an important part of beekeeping—they help us monitor the health of each colony, make sure the queen is doing well 👑, check for signs of disease or pests, and remove queen cells to help prevent swarms.

One of our favorite parts of beekeeping is opening a hive and seeing a healthy, thriving colony. 🐝

Every inspection tells a story. We’re checking for signs of a healthy queen, looking at brood development, monitoring food stores, and making sure the bees have enough space to continue growing.

The bees do all the hard work, we’re just here to help them succeed. ❤️🍯

Ever wonder what a honey bee looks like up close? 🐝

Despite their tiny size, honey bees are some of the hardest workers in nature. A single worker bee may visit thousands of flowers during her lifetime helping pollinate plants and support our food supply.

The next time you see a bee in your garden, remember she’s hard at work! 🌼

🐝 A closer look inside the hive!

What you’re seeing here is healthy brood in different stages of development. Those pearly white larvae will eventually become the worker bees that keep the colony running.

When we inspect our hives, one of the biggest things we look for is a healthy brood pattern. A strong brood pattern usually means the queen is doing her job and the colony is growing.

Can you spot the capped brood, larvae, and empty cells? 👀

A closer look during hive inspection 🐝🍯

During our inspections, we’re mainly looking for a few key things:
✨ Making sure the colony has enough space to grow
✨ Checking that the queen is present and actively laying
✨ Watching for queen cells forming

In this frame, you can see queen cells starting to develop 👑

This usually means the colony may be preparing to swarm or raise a new queen.

At this point, we always confirm that the current queen is still healthy and active. From there, we can decide the next step, whether that’s managing the swarm, removing queen cells, or using them to support another hive that may need a queen.

Every inspection helps us keep our bees healthy, balanced, and thriving 🤍🐝
