SCAM ALERT for Museums and Historical Societies in New York State. A colleague reported a recent scam whereby an adult male calls a cultural heritage organization with well-worded questions about the collections and may pose as a representative of a family foundation that wants to support collection care and inventory work. In reality, the person has previously been tried and convicted of theft of museum collections in the past. The affected museum is working with a lawyer to craft a statement that will be released and circulated soon. In the mean time, please give all research requests and unsolicited offers of collection care assistance some extra scrutiny!

Please consider signing this Preservation Buffalo Niagara petition to designate The Turtle in Niagara Falls, NY as a Local Landmark. It is the first step in getting this important building designed by an indigenous architect on the state and national registers. The building is owned by an absentee developer landlord and has been vacant for a long time. Registration is open for the refreshed Collections Management 200: Stewardship and Public Access. We redeveloped AASLH's Collection Management offering into a two-part experience. Each is 8 weeks. The course begins in January 2024!

Registration is open for our Winter Online Courses. Many of those who do history have multiple responsibilities in their job or volunteering roles. These Online Courses allow you to learn new skills from an instructor experienced in the subject. The registration deadline is January 5, 2024. Register early!
