When I started my business, people would always tell me "if you can make it five years, you will have made it". Well, my fifth year fell right at the tail end of the recession in 2010. I remember sitting in my office. Some days there'd be no phone calls, no scheduled work, nothing.... I remember thinking, it was going to be tough to make it through that fifth year. However, there is one job that I'll always remember... One job that marked the change of everything.
It was January of 2010. My wife and I were in the hospital after the birth of our first child. I slipped out the afternoon on the day she was born to run home to check on the dog, and check messages at the shop. Months earlier I had given an estimate to re-tint Mullikin's Auto Body. Up to this point, this would've been the biggest job I would've had the opportunity to do. I wasn't confident I would get the job, mainly because I thought I was bidding against a competitor that was far more established than I was... However, after checking the messages that day, I had one I was thankful to hear. Mullikin's had called and said that they wanted us to come do the job. I couldn't believe it, I had just become a dad and I get news that I had won the bid of my first big job! To say the least, it was a high point in low times!
Over the years I have always looked back to that point in life. Not only was it a turning point in life, but in business as well. After tinting Mullikin's, business picked up and hasn't really slowed down since. Life took on a whole new meaning, and it surely hasn't slowed down either! I always think back to how it felt hearing that message. This one job truly holds a spot in my heart.
Now it's been nearly fourteen years since we originally re-tinted Mullikin's, and the time had come again. They asked us to update their window film during their latest renovation. We couldn't be happier to do so... As much as it meant for me to tint it the first time, I was honored, and excited to get the opportunity to do the job for them again.
This time we used Huper Optik Fusion 10. It is a dual reflective film (mirrored exterior, grey interior), with a 88% glare reduction, and 77% total solar energy rejection. A great film to help reject the sun's energy. While still looking great, inside, and out.
Finally, I wanted to say thank you to Steve Mullikin for choosing us to tint the windows of your building, and making us a part of the journey in 2010, and now again in 2023. It truly means a lot, and I appreciate it!
