PRECINCT 5 IN ACTION: Tow Truck Driver And Passenger Arrested After Crash

Deputies with Constable Terry Allbritton’s Office, Toll Road Division, were dispatched to a minor crash on the West Sam Houston Parkway South, just before Briar Forest Boulevard.

During the investigation, deputies discovered that the driver of one of the involved vehicles, a tow truck, was in possession of a fi***rm and ma*****na. Furthermore, the passenger of the tow truck was found to have multiple outstanding misdemeanor warrants.

The driver was taken into custody for Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, while the passenger was arrested on the outstanding warrants. Both individuals were transported and booked into the Harris County Jail.

" NEW HAVEN — An East Hartford man was arrested on federal drug and gun charges Thursday after a tow truck driver found narcotics and a fi***rm while repossessing his SUV, prosecutors said.

" FRESNO, Calif. – Tow truck operator Ramiro Basurto loses as much as $700 – not including his time and the cost of diesel, now about $8.49 a gallon – every time he retrieves an abandoned vehicle belonging to someone detained by federal immigration officials.
But those costs did not stop Basurto, originally from Mexico, from offering free towing to anyone detained after news broke of a surge in immigration arrests across the Central Valley.

" HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — An apparent collision in the westbound lanes of University Drive near the Providence development on Thursday resulted in a roadside fireball during the early stage of the afternoon rush hour.
Huntsville Fire & Rescue received the call about 3:20 p.m.
Eyewitness video shared with FOX54 shows what appears to be an SUV engulfed in flames on the outskirts of a car dealership. The fire partially consumed a flatbed tow truck that extended from the apparent point of impact to the edge of the busy road.
It was not immediately clear what caused the wreck or whether anyone was hurt.

" HAMPTON, Va. — Towing rates are going up in Hampton after the City Council approved an increase for companies called to remove vehicles at the request of police.
Council approved the change this Wednesday night, raising the rate from $125 to $210. It’s the first rate change in 20 years, and tow operators say the increase was overdue.
“It’s been a long time coming,” said Robert Oates, owner of Pops Towing Company, who has worked in the industry for more than 30 years. “It’s definitely a plus, it’s not a minus. We’ve been in the minus for more than 20 years. It’s going in the right direction, I think.” "

" A pair of suspects were arrested last night (Wednesday) after reportedly throwing rocks at a business in Ballston and attacking an employee who confronted them.
The suspects, aged 20 and 19, were seen throwing rocks shortly before 8:10 p.m., according to a preliminary incident report from the Arlington County Police Department.
“When an employee of the business confronted the suspects, they threw rocks at him,” the report says. “A physical altercation ensued … during which Suspect One struck him with a sharp object, resulting in lacerations, and Suspect Two prevented him from leaving the area.”
