When a business signed up to be on the card, they didn't just sign up for a mailer to go into 10K houses at a time. They signed up for me to be their cheerleader. Funny, I never could remember routines and I only mastered the running man in the 90s....just saying.
They signed up for me to refer them. You may not realize this but I look at each company and see what everyone is saying about them before I get them on the card. It doesn't mean you have to be perfect, but it does mean that you are doing good work and you add value to our community and the cards.
The first businesses I refer are the ones on the card but it's because they were vetted. It isn't just because they paid to share in the cost of the printing and mailing.
Also, when they join the card they also join me in:
1. Raffle baskets: I include the most recent card in them.
2. Networking Events: I hold it up and name off as many as I can remember during my 30 seconds.
3. Festivals: I slip them inside a local magazine and tell peple that's where you find the cool businesses that you want to buy local from.
4. Social Media: I follow, like, and share.
5. Referrals: When someone tells me their need, I refer the best people I know in the business. If they are on the card, of course they are my first referral and if they aren't it's who I know that will do good work.
6. Free Networking & Marketing Tips.
It's a lot of work doing this, but I love it more than anything I have done in my life. I love helping local companies build their brands through digital and print!
