🔥 THE BURNOUT CHECK-IN

Burnout doesn’t always look like falling apart.

Sometimes it looks like answering the emails, meeting the deadlines, taking care of everyone, running the business, showing up where you’re needed — and quietly wondering how much longer you can keep doing it this way.

This Friday at WHIRL, we’re asking a different question:

Not “Can I handle it?”
But “Is the way I’m handling it sustainable?”

We’ll talk about the quieter signs of burnout, where we may be overfunctioning, what we’re carrying that may not actually belong to us, and the difference between needing rest, support, a boundary, or a decision.

And we’ll leave with one practical challenge:

What would make your life 10% more sustainable right now?

You don’t have to fix everything. Sometimes one conversation, one boundary, one decision, or one thing you finally put down can create the room you need.

This might be the most accurate picture of my life right now.

Last Friday’s WHIRL meeting had wrapped up. I was holding my youngest grandson in one arm and answering a client’s email with the other.

And someone caught the moment. (Thank you Heather Reynolds Sams)

I looked at this picture later and thought about how often we talk about work-life balance as though the goal is to keep all the pieces of our lives neatly separated.

Work over here.
Family over there.
Friendships, community, purpose and ourselves squeezed into whatever space remains.

But real life rarely works that way.

Sometimes you’re a financial planner and a grandmother at the exact same time.

Sometimes the women you meet through business become part of your community.

Sometimes a conversation that starts around a conference table becomes a podcast topic, a friendship, a referral, an idea—or exactly the encouragement someone needed that morning.

And sometimes success isn’t about perfectly balancing everything.

It’s about building a life where the things that matter to you are allowed to coexist.

My work matters deeply to me.
My family matters deeply to me.
The community we’re building through WHIRL matters deeply to me.

I don’t want a life where I have to pretend one of those things stops existing when I’m doing another.

Maybe the better question isn’t:

“How do I balance it all?”

Maybe it’s:

“Am I building a life where the things I value most can belong together?”

For me, this picture feels like a pretty good answer.

❤️ Family.
💼 Purposeful work.
🔄 Meaningful connection.

Not perfectly balanced.

Integrated.
