This week marks the 20th anniversary of the founding of Pebblecreek Montessori. In our humble beginning, we had nothing more than a dream, a few lawn chairs, and an empty lot in Plano where we started enrolling our first families. We were a lot younger, very naive and driven by passion to be leaders in education. I remember thinking our building was going to swallow us up with its size and soaring ceilings, but we outgrew it within a year and expanded to a second and eventually a third building. Our success also came with a lot of painful lessons and presented immense opportunities for learning and growth. People often ask me if I have any regrets and the honest answer is no. I would not trade this amazing journey for anything easier, less labor intensive or more lucrative: it shaped me into who I am today. I am 20 years wiser, not so naive, and still passionate about what I do. How many professionals can say the same after working in the same field for a quarter of a century? I am very blessed.
My next project will be starting a series of documentaries about Montessori, my journey and those who I met along the way. Just starting the initial process of brainstorming. If you were part of this journey on any level, I would love to hear from you. Calling on teachers, parents, alumni and members of the Montessori and local community. Stay tuned, we are just getting started!
