I've specified more white kitchens than I can count and I don't regret a single one. They were bright, they were clean, and they made a lot of dark 90s kitchens feel new again.

But nobody asks me for one anymore.

What they want now is warmth. Cream instead of white. A wood island instead of a painted one. Brass instead of chrome. Colors that feel like they came from outside rather than from a showroom.
Here's what trips people up: when you take away the hard contrast, you have to replace it with something. That something is texture. Fluting on the island, a plaster hood, real veining in the stone. Five surfaces in a palette you could cover with three paint chips — that's what keeps a warm kitchen from turning into beige soup.

Still a render but cabinetry is installed soon!

Swipe to slide three and save it for when you're standing in front of samples wondering why nothing looks right.

This room had every advantage. Big windows, a tray ceiling, French doors, real square footage.
What it didn't have was a job.

That's a plan problem, not a people problem. Builders draw a room, label it "flex" or "study," and nobody ever decides what it actually is. So it becomes the room where things land. Almost every house I walk into has one, and I've never once thought less of anybody for it.
Our clients knew exactly what they wanted it to be. They just needed somebody to commit to it out loud.

So: navy on the walls, the trim, and the ceiling, no relief anywhere. A room this size can carry that weight, and a jewel box only works if you go all in. Curtains in the same color so the windows melt into the wall instead of chopping it up. Leather that'll look better in ten years than it does now. A brass sconce with some heft. And the guitar prints, which are the thing in here that tells about you whose room it is.

Now it's the room everybody fights over.

Save this if you've got a room that's turned into storage. DM us DESIGN and let's give it a job.

Sometimes you don't need Full Service Design - you just need help deciding, fast. That's exactly what Designer for a Day is for.

Here's everything a client walked away with after one session. 👇🏼

It starts before we ever show up — a discovery call and onboarding session so we understand you, your space, and your style, and make sure we're headed in the right direction together. Then we show up and get to work: a real walkthrough, real questions, solutions happening live. Plus the fun part — fabrics, finishes, and samples in hand, because everything reads different in your actual light than on a screen.

By end of day, it's all documented — mood boards, selections, and a full shopping list, organized and ready to execute. No guessing what to buy or where to find it.

Discovery. A day of design. An actual plan. Done.

Okay we've been quiet for a few weeks (summer schedules and chaos with kids said "absolutely not" to our content calendar) — but we've been sitting on this one and it was worth the wait. 🛁

This stunning North Texas bath is proof that "spa-like" doesn't have to mean cold and sterile.

Swipe through for the 5 details doing all the heavy lifting — the scale of that pendant, the mixed metals, the rug that adds all the soul, art that doesn't match on purpose, and a tub shape that's honestly just showing off a little.

Save this one for your next reno 🤍 And if you're ready to make your own space feel like this — DM us "DESIGN" and let's talk.

The bar got the glow-up first. The office was next.

The client wanted traditional Texas cowboy — full stop. My job was making sure that didn't read dated in five years.

He had his heart set on those wood cabinets. I asked for a little trust to try something else. Now he says he wouldn't change a thing!

That's the job, honestly. Not just choosing pretty things, but knowing how to incorporate what the client loves and also when the client needs a little nudge.

Swipe to see where this one started. Save this if you're planning a space that needs to feel collected, not costume-y.

The goal is not just openness.
It is openness with definition.

Ceiling details, architectural features, built-ins, lighting, stone, wood tones, and layered materials all help create subtle separation without closing the space off. That is what makes a large open space feel warm, intentional, and custom — instead of flat or unfinished.

This is why design matters early in the building or remodeling process.

What is it like to work with HSHD?

We care about the design, the details, the investment, the timeline, and the final reveal.
But we also care about how you feel through the process.

We want you to feel guided, understood, supported, and honestly — like you have a team in your corner who knows what they’re doing and is fun to be around.
Because a beautiful home matters.
But so does feeling taken care of while it comes together.

If your home is ready to feel more finished, intentional, and deeply personal, we’d love to help.

A home can look beautiful and still feel easy to live in — that’s the sweet spot.

This client said she had never felt more at ease and confident during the design and remodel of her home, and honestly, that is the part we care about just as much as the finished photos.

Yes, we want the magazine-styled moment.
But we also want you to feel guided, understood, and genuinely excited about the decisions being made along the way.

Because high-end design should feel thoughtful, not intimidating.

If your home in North Dallas, Prosper or the surrounding areas is ready to feel more finished, intentional, and like you — we’d love to help.

This office started as a place to work…but, the client had a much better story than that.

He is an English professor, a traveler, a fiancé, a dad, and part of a family with a love for sports — so a generic “moody office” was not going to cut it.

The goal was to create a room that felt personal without feeling cluttered.

Books, art, travel memories, family pieces, and football moments all had a place. They just needed structure, editing, and room to breathe.

Now the office feels layered, collected, and specific to him.

This bar had a little identity crisis.

It functioned. It existed. It technically checked the “yes, there is a bar here” box.
But visually? It felt like it had wandered in from another house and decided to stay.

A full tear-out was not the right move for this project. It would have created a much bigger scope than the room actually needed, so we got strategic.

Sometimes a space needs a full transformation. Sometimes it needs a smarter plan. Knowing the difference is the part that saves time, money, and a whole lot of “why does this still feel off?”
