Nobody in the area does it better than he does. Fantastic asset to the community.

Sometimes you just need to see the fun in things. Yesterday I had three inspections before noon (all referrals, thanks to all of you for that)

My kids wanted to send a friend to help inspect.

It was a bit of a relief from the stress of finding where the leaks are to stage some photos.

Insulated siding can increase your walls energy efficiency by 20-25%. This home is receiving Provia insulated board and batten siding.

Metal roofs not only last much longer than asphalt shingles but they are also more weather resistant.

If you use a lighter color roof you can save as much as 25% on cooling your home. This client chose black but there are ways to create an air gap that allows the darker roof to also save on cooling costs.

This house is also getting a total offset solar system.

The clients goal was to improve the home and also cut energy costs as he enters retirement.

I will have updated photos of this project shortly.

Here we go again. Stay safe out there.

Jack Drake - Western CT Weather mentioned up to 65mph winds and half inch hail are possible.

At 4:21PM numerous showers and storms have fired off to our west over the Hudson Valley and New Jersey. These will slowly work into the area over the next several hours. I would especially watch out in the 6PM to 9PM window in Western CT. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch continues in Fairfield County until 9PM.

It’s been a busy month but I had to share a photo of this storm restoration in Redding. Metal valleys are more than a nice design touch. They help water and debris exit the roof and keep things dry.

It’s the details that matter. A roof may seem like a “everyone does it the same” situation but material selection and workmanship matter.

This roof received GAF’s Silver Pledge warranty which means peace of mind for the homeowner

What makes a gutter system fail?

Three things tell the story.

1) improper pitch - water needs to flow downhill and away from the building. If not it pools and leaks, possibly into the home.

2) improper sizing - most homes have basic 5 inch gutters. They’re good most days but get exposed by heavy rainfall. This is true especially on ranch style homes or multi level homes where a large roof area is trying to drain into a standard size gutter.

3) maintenance - if the gutter has debris in it the flow is restricted. Cleaning twice a year (after trees grow leaves and after the leaves fall) will ensure summer storms and winter snow melt can be taken away from the building.

Which of the three was failing on this gutter yesterday?
