Do you know how many families go hungry with no where to turn?

SML Gives Inc is supporting friends and neighbors by working to eliminate food insecurity in the SML region and beyond.

We are working hard to get our facility ready to serve!

Renovations are underway and we are hoping to have the pantry open and serving neighbors by the end of the year.

Did you know that over 15% of our neighbors are facing food insecurity? Almost one in every six of our neighbors in Franklin County don’t know how they are going to feed their families.

Together, with the existing network of local organizations, SML GIVES INC is working hard to bridge the gap and ensure that no one goes without and no one goes to bed hungry.

Our mission is to compliment, NOT COMPETE, wit the existing hunger relief network in our region.

In the first year of operations, SML Gives Inc has sourced and redistributed 30 pallets of peanut butter and pantry staples to organizations in Franklin, Bedford, & Pittsylvania Counties at no cost. We offer financial aid for households in crisis, working to establish stability and help those families thrive. Over 30 new refrigerators, washers, dryers, and stoves have been distributed to those without.

Not every sponsorship needs to come with a check. 💰

Some of the most valuable partnerships I’ve helped build have started with a simple question:

“What are we already spending money on that someone might be willing to provide?”

A venue. Printing. Photography. Food and beverages. Marketing. Supplies. Professional services.

💜 Every one of those donated expenses means more of the money you raise can stay focused on your mission.

But here’s the part I think nonprofits sometimes miss: in-kind sponsors are still sponsors. ‼️

Value the contribution. Recognize it appropriately. Include the business in your sponsorship strategy.
Thank them well.

And most importantly—build the relationship beyond the event.

⏭️⏭️Because a company that says yes to providing $1,500 worth of services today may become a financial sponsor, donor, advocate, or long-term partner tomorrow. 🙌🏼

Fundraising isn’t only about bringing more money in. Sometimes, it’s about spending less to accomplish more.

That’s strategy behind the ask.

Sponsor benefits are promises. And I take those promises seriously.

I carefully build each sponsorship tier so the benefits match the investment — whether it’s $1,000, $5,000 or $10,000.

Then comes another part of the strategy: asking the right sponsor for the right tier.

Yes, I help clients secure $10,000 sponsors. But getting the yes is only part of the job.

Make the right promises.
Make them worth the investment.
Then deliver every single one.

That’s how sponsorships become partnerships.

PARTNERSHIP TIP: Don’t start with the ask. Start with a question.

When you’re trying to build a relationship with a local business, your first conversation doesn’t need to include a 📒sponsorship packet, a 💰dollar amount, or even an❓ask.

Instead, try:

“What kinds of community initiatives are important to your company?”

Then listen.

You may discover shared priorities, employees who care ❤️about your mission, opportunities to work together — or an idea you hadn’t considered at all. 😮

The goal of that first conversation isn’t to walk away with a check.

It’s to give them a reason to have a second conversation with you. 🙌🏼

That’s how partnerships begin.

LeaDing WiTh the AsK.

Before you send the sponsorship packet, take time to learn about the business.

🤔What matters to them?
💭Who are they trying to reach?
🎯Where do their community priorities align with your mission?

Then build the opportunity around that connection.

A business doesn’t have to simply write a check to make a meaningful investment in your organization. The strongest partnerships create value on both sides — and give the business a reason to stay involved long after one event is over.

Stop looking 👀 for sponsors. Start building 📈partners.
