TRAINING: “C”ing the Whole Response: Community, Collaboration, and Communication
May 21-22, 2014
West Virginia State University
Institute, WV
Overview
We are faced with two realities: 1) decreasing funding for preparedness and 2) disasters that test our capabilities and provide new and unforeseen challenges for response and recovery. The purpose of the 2014 combined Disaster Summit and Public Health and Medical Preparedness Conference “C”ing the Whole Response: Community, Collaboration, and Communication is to bring together preparedness staff and volunteers from all levels of government, faith-based, non-profit and private sector organizations to discuss and train for coordinated response and recovery operations to protect our communities and increase our resilience.
The objectives of the conference are as follows:
1. Identify strategies to protect our most important resource – our responders
2. Identify and discuss the challenges and opportunities for recovery operations in West Virginia
3. Explore the resources available for improved communication pre, during and post event
4. Highlight the unique challenges that disasters pose to public health, medical, behavioral health and mass care operations
5. Discuss the critical planning areas for public health, medical, behavioral health and mass care organizations
Topics included in the conference:
• The recovery process, how it works and how your organization fits
• Psychological hardiness in disaster response
• Social media, intelligence-sharing and risk communications
• Integrating populations with access and functional needs into planning, response and recovery
• Lessons learned from major events nationwide
