The Daytona Beach Fire Department (DBFD) has a long and storied history. After the first big fire in 1898, several influential citizens formed a volunteer fire department. In 1902 the city purchased its first chemical fire engine. In 1909 the first paid fire chief, Henry T. By the end of that year Charles Messing replaced Titus and was overseeing a department with about 65 voluntee

This week, our Technical Rescue Team is training on the new confined space manhole prop at Fire Station 1 Headquarters for the very first time.

The realistic training prop allows firefighters to practice confined space rescue techniques in a controlled environment, helping them build proficiency with specialized equipment, patient packaging, rope systems, and coordinated rescue operations. Hands-on training like this ensures our team is prepared to respond safely and effectively when every second counts.

Our new Station 1 Headquarters was designed with firefighter training in mind, providing valuable resources that help us sharpen our skills and better serve the Daytona Beach community.

Station 1 Headquarters welcomed MuSool Martial Arts Summer Campers for a tour this week. Campers had the opportunity to explore our museum, see where firefighters live and prepare meals while on duty, and get an up-close look at Engine 1. Our firefighters enjoyed answering questions, sharing what they do each day, and showcasing our new headquarters.

While this was the first group tour of Station 1 Headquarters, we also thank all who have stopped by to visit since we opened our doors. We enjoy sharing our station with the community.

One of the many training resources available at our new Fire Station 1 Headquarters is a multi-story training tower designed for high-rise hose deployment and technical rescue training. Recently, DBFD firefighters put the tower's capabilities to use during bailout training exercises.

A firefighter bailout is an emergency self-rescue technique used when a firefighter becomes trapped and cannot safely exit a structure through conventional means. During this type of training, firefighters practice rapidly descending from an elevated position using specialized rope systems, helping ensure they are prepared to react quickly and safely in a worst-case scenario.

The Daytona Beach Fire Department would like to thank the nearly 400 residents, neighboring public safety departments, and community members for joining us as we ushered in a new era and cut the ribbon at our new Station 1 Headquarters this morning. In true fire department fashion, we didnโ€™t just โ€œcut a ribbonโ€ firefighters and commissioners used extrication tools to cut a sheet metal ribbon.

The new state-of-the-art facility replaces the historic Fire Station No. 1 at 301 S. Beach Street, which has served the community since 1925. Marking the end of an era, the final alarm sounded at the 101-year-old station at 2 p.m., officially placing it out of service and signaling the transition of personnel and equipment to the new headquarters.

We sincerely thank our community for all their continued support!
