Back in the day, broke out this fine warmblood filly. Started her and brought her to second level manuvers, and rode her through her kuering.
This was about 120 days training, with little stress. After her owner sold her she went on to have a great eventing career.

Just had a great live video lesson with Melissa Derbin at Shepherd's Hollow Stables ♥️
Earlier Melissa had noticed some challenges she needed to work through with one of her yearlings she seemed a bit tense, distracted, and uneven. I gave her some warm up 💪 excersizes to do, and within minutes she was calm more loose and more relaxed.
We used the free Pivo Lesson tool. It allows me to see your work in real time. And give instruction as you are working.
It worked so well I'm thinking about offering it as an option on my services menu.
What do you guys think? Would you like that option?

Being proactive as a neurodivergent can be a challenge. For example, do you make training a routine part of you schedule, or do you procrastinate and panic when your show deadline approaches, cramming training into a short time period? This explains it and offers a solution. Hold yourself accountable. Link in the comments.

Horses are in the here and now. Reading them is an aquired skill. You need to respond to what they are displaying now. Not what was in their past. Anylizing their thoughts as human emotions won't help any situation. That doesn't mean they are less than, they just have a different way of feeling and seeing the world. Learning the signs and signals they display to convey their state of mind is our responsibility.

Our dirty little secret...
If we make it look easy...

It's because it is🤣
When you have the knowledge!

What are you waiting for?
It saves time, energy, soundness, money, and peace of mind.

You don't need to use a wall to teach the sidepass. As a matter of fact, using the wall can cause stress and clostophobia in a young horse. Feeling trapped is no fun. It can cause a raised head and hollow back. Instead we teach the movement out in the open one step at a time. Later we put those steps together and start refinement. Romie was dragging behind, she was fixed without a stick, or threat of violence just by going back and refreshing her memory of one of those previous steps. Yes her head and neck are not straight yet, that comes later. Get the mind and legs first.

How do you feel about this idea?

Witnessing Romie progress from mastering a single step to executing a 360 is truly impressive. Ask Melissa about the speed of Romie's learning curve - it's clear the approach is built on setting up for success, leveraging positivity and empowerment rather than force.
