Project update. This week we are in Charlotte, North Carolina, meeting the team on our newest project and touring the facility, a 30,000 plus square foot blank canvas with big expectations behind it. We're excited and honored that this team is trusting us to design the shop, select the equipment, and get it running as a true modern, efficient fab operation. This facility will house 10 departments, including advanced welding and advanced pipe cutting, because a true lean manufacturing pipe fab shop does not happen by accident, it happens by design. Construct Prefab Consultants remains the only company in the United States dedicated exclusively to designing pipe fabrication facilities. Stay tuned over the next six months as we share updates on this project.

Field to Fab | Vol. 1 | How Wm. Floyd Company built a custom steam bypass system for a high school in Lansing

Two+ years into working with Wm. Floyd Company of Howell, Michigan, the owner recently sent us this picture of a prefab project their team is working on.

Rhett, the shop foreman, went to the jobsite with the project drawings and took field measurements of the existing steam piping, along with complete room dimensions.

Back at the shop, he built a 3D model of the room and reviewed the flow diagram. From there, he developed the piping layout and designed the rack to support the entire system.

Once the design was reviewed and approved, fabrication began.

The team built the rack and skid first, followed by the piping. Everything was then assembled together, prepared for shipping, and transported to the high school in Lansing, Michigan, where it was flown into position by crane.

What strikes us most about this project is that it didn’t require a huge CAD department or a massive team.

It required the right people, with the right skills, following the right process.

That is what a successful prefab program can look like.

Take a field condition, capture the information, bring it back to the shop, model it, engineer the solution, fabricate it, assemble it, and deliver a finished system ready for installation.

Wm. Floyd Company is a great example of what can happen when a contractor develops the people, processes, and capabilities to make prefab work.

Project announcement. We’re excited to be starting a new premier fab shop build in North Carolina in the next few weeks. Thirty thousand plus square feet, a nine month timeline, and a fully advanced digital design covering equipment selection, workflow, and operations built as one system from the start. This is what it looks like when a fab shop is set up right from day one. More to come as it progresses.

Exciting Pre-Fab Development Project Update: All of the new equipment has finally arrived at Wm. Floyd Company in Howell, Michigan. Pre-Fab capabilities include a brand new plumbing department, welding department, pipe cutting department, metal projects department, material handling capabilities throughout and so much more. This new fab shop will bring the highest quality Pre-Fab to the northwest region of Michigan and beyond. We couldn’t be happier with how this project turned out with one of the best clients in the mechanical/plumbing/hvac industry. The United Association of Union Plumbers, Fitters, Welders and Service Techs should definitely feature Wm. Floyd Company in the next UA Journal.

Project Update: We are excited to announce our latest project in Michigan with Wm. Floyd Company. Had such a great day meeting the project team, discussing many details of implementing their brand new Pre Fab Development Plan. Stay tuned for more information over the next 6 months. This is going to be a really cool project.
