🎒💙 Supporting the children of our fallen heroes.

Beyond the Badge was honored to coordinate providing backpacks and school supplies for the children of fallen officers supported by the Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation as they head back to school.

For us, family support means showing up in the big moments—but also remembering the everyday moments that matter to our kiddos. A new backpack, school supplies, and knowing there is an entire community behind them is one small way we can continue to honor their fallen hero. 💙

For years, we've focused on preparing officers for the realities of the profession—but the people waiting for them at home often receive little to no preparation. Family Academy changes that.

Rare Opportunity for Law Enforcement Agencies

Beyond the Badge has a very limited opening for agencies looking to expand their wellness initiatives through culturally competent family support programming.

Due to national training, consulting, and speaking commitments, we rarely have availability to partner with additional agencies throughout the year. We currently have a small window open for agencies interested in implementing or expanding programs focused on recruiting, retention, resilience, and long-term officer wellness.

There’s something powerful happening at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

This week, we’ve had the privilege of teaching Family Academy Certification to an incredible group of professionals who are deeply committed to strengthening their agency culture from the inside out. One thing has stood out repeatedly throughout the week: culture does not change by accident. It changes because leaders intentionally invest in people.

Sheriff Regina Marinelli and Commander Dr. Cindy Kennedy are two of those leaders. True movers, shakers, and culture impactors who understands that supporting employees and families is not an “extra” — it is part of building a resilient, healthy, and sustainable agency. Leadership like this creates ripple effects far beyond the walls of an organization. It impacts morale, retention, recruiting, wellness, trust, and ultimately the strength of the entire community.

Watching agencies prioritize family support, peer support, wellness, and connection reminds me why this work matters so much. The agencies willing to think differently and invest intentionally are the ones shaping the future of law enforcement culture.

Thank you to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for hosting and for your commitment to your people. And thank you to these leaders for being the kind of leaders who pushes positive culture forward instead of simply talking about it.

We’re heading into our second Peer Support tabletop training this week after an incredible first session with powerful feedback.

This week, we train the rest of our team—and this work matters. These conversations help us identify strengths, expose gaps, and prepare before we’re in the middle of a critical incident.

As part of the preparation, I ordered copies of a book that I believe should be required reading for every peer supporter (and LEO leader). It will hit hard—yes, even for the toughest SWAT operator—but more importantly, it provides a powerful perspective on how our actions, and leadership decisions, can shape the long-term impact on families.
