Thank you to those who have chosen authenticity over acceptance, truth over comfort, and visibility over safety when the world made those choices costly.

Thank you to those who continue to exist openly and unapologetically despite those who would deny your dignity, your rights, or your place in this world.

Thank you for loving when others answer with hatred, and for continuing to show up as yourselves despite being told, in ways large and small, that you shouldn't.

Thank you for being people we can continue to learn from…about courage, resilience, compassion, and what it means to live honestly.

Your existence makes our communities stronger.

Happy Pride. 🏳️‍🌈

Got stuff piling up at home? Don’t go chasing garbage trucks, take it to Des Moines’ next MEGA SCRUB Day on June 20th.

On the third Saturday of every month from March to November, the Public Works department offers Des Moines residents a free place to dump yard waste and bulky garbage from their homes.

June 20th is a MEGA SCRUB, and MEGA SCRUB events also provide safe disposal of household hazardous waste.

Accepted items:
• Trash containers, general trash (including furniture, bulky household items, and televisions)
• Lawn mowers with all fluids drained
• Tires, any size, on/off rim (limit 10 per vehicle • no commercial haulers)
• Appliances: air conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, microwaves, stoves, dehumidifiers, furnaces, washers, dryers, and dishwashers

Only at Compost Center:
• Yard debris, including brush, tree limbs (24” diameter or less; max length 10’), leaves, grass clippings, straw, hay, and garden waste

For full guidelines and restrictions, visit DSM.city/Scrub or call (515) 283-4950.

Simplify & Organize can help you sort, declutter, and prepare items for disposal so you can clear the clutter without the overwhelm.

Thrifting isn’t just a shopping choice, it’s a mindset shift.

It’s one of the simplest ways to live more intentionally without adding more pressure, clutter, or cost to your life.

It reduces waste by giving existing items a second life instead of sending them to landfills, saves money while still allowing you to create a home and life you love, and naturally slows down overconsumption by encouraging more thoughtful choices.

It also supports individuality. Your space becomes more personal, less mass-produced, and lowers environmental impact by reducing demand for constant new production.

At its core, thrifting aligns with something deeper than “shopping differently.” It supports a way of living that values intention over impulse, clarity over clutter, and sustainability over excess.

And that mindset doesn’t just stay abstract. It shows up in the everyday decisions we make about what we bring into our spaces.

Simplification isn’t only about removing what no longer fits.

It’s also about being more selective with what gets added in the first place.

The Hope Wood JD Peace by Purging Challenge is officially complete! 🎉

Over the past few weeks, I've been decluttering right alongside everyone else. The video and photos (in comments) are a glimpse of what left my home during the challenge.

It's a good reminder that even professional organizers aren't immune to accumulating things we no longer need, use, or love.

If you participated in the challenge and found yourself thinking:

✔️ "I made progress, but I still have a lot to do."

✔️ "I'm not sure what to tackle next."

✔️ "I work better with accountability and support."

I've set aside a limited number of 2-hour organizing sessions at a reduced rate for challenge participants.

No pressure. Just practical support to help you keep the momentum going.

And whether you worked through one box or an entire room, take a moment to celebrate your progress. Every item released is one less thing competing for your space, attention, and energy.

What was your biggest win from the challenge?

Yesterday, I logged 22 flights of stairs and over 10,000 steps while working with a client.

That's part of what I do.

I carry boxes. I haul donations. I move (and sometimes build and take apart) furniture. I sort, lift, climb, and organize.

But the physical work is only part of the job.

What many people don't see is that I'm also helping carry the mental and emotional weight that often comes with clutter. I'm helping clients work through overwhelm, decision fatigue, guilt, uncertainty, years of postponed projects, and the exhaustion that comes from feeling like they've been doing it all on their own.

The boxes may not get lighter, but the people sure do.

By the end of a session, the visual result is a more functional space. The less visible result is more breathing room, greater clarity, renewed confidence, and a space that supports someone's life instead of adding stress to it.

That's the REAL value of what I do.

It's not just about the boxes I carry or the steps it takes to get the job done.

It's about helping people move forward.

If you need someone willing to carry the boxes, and everything they represent, I'm your person.

And no, I don't mind the stairs.☺️

Boundaries are not rejection. They're how you maintain your identity in the face of endless demands on your time and mental space.

Every yes costs something. Sometimes it's your time. Sometimes it's your energy. Sometimes it's your peace.

Creating a simpler, more intentional life isn't just about decluttering your home. It's also about being intentional with where you invest your time, energy, and attention.

This is one of the themes I explore in Happiness Through Simplicity: A 28-Day Path to Intentional Living.

You started something good. Now let's finish it together.

One of the things I've learned from both my own journey and my work with clients is that getting started is often the hardest part, but maintaining momentum can be just as challenging.

Life gets busy.
Energy fades.
And good intentions run into real-world schedules.

If you participated in Hope Wood JD's Peace by Purging challenge and would like a little extra support wrapping things up, I'm offering a limited number of follow-up organizing sessions exclusively for challenge participants.

These focused 2-hour sessions are designed to help you build on the progress you've already made and create systems that feel manageable and sustainable.

✨ Challenge Participant Rate: $125 for a 2-hour session

A huge thank you to Hope Wood for creating a challenge that encouraged so many people to take that first step.

If you'd like more information or want to reserve a spot, send me a message.

A cluttered closet is easy to spot.

A cluttered mind? Not so much.

Most people don’t realize how much mental clutter they’re carrying because they’ve been carrying it for years.

That’s why physical movement matters so much.

Not because we’re trying to “burn calories” or fix ourselves, but because movement helps us process what we’ve been holding onto.

Movement shifts energy. It gives the mind somewhere to place the stress, pressure, frustration, and noise we store in the body.

A hard workout.
A walk outside.
Stretching.
Taking a deep breath for the first time all day.

It all helps clear some of the static.

I believe organization is deeper than containers and color-coded bins. Real organization is alignment: mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

When those things are out of sync, life feels heavy.

When they start working together, even small things feel manageable again.

Sometimes clearing your mind is the first form of decluttering.

What helps you mentally reset?
