The ISO (Verisk) contract with FEMA has been placed into “inactive” status, so their management of the CRS program is inactive as well. This also means their staff can communicate with us again. Right now, no movement can occur in CRS – no class improvements, no new enrollments, no annual recertifications, no cycle visits.
Currently, there is no technical support for CRS communities from the program, including courtesy reviews of plans and documents. Only class changes or enrollments effective April 1, 2026 should move forward. Anything that would have been effective October 1, 2026 or later, including new enrollment in the CRS program, is paused until this is resolved.
• Even if you're the only person in your community that deals with the CRS Program, you're not alone and it's going to be OK!
• The CRS Program contract with ISO/Verisk is currently “inactive,” not cancelled—an important distinction.
• Our CRS & Insurance Committee met yesterday, 3.18.26, to discuss the implications of the CRS Program pause and we're sharing that information here. You may view the meeting recording at this link after logging into your FLfloods.org profile.
• Within your community, encourage calm, measured, and collaborative responses from both staff and elected officials.
• Your agreements with FEMA for CRS remain in place. So, please continue all local program activities, including maintaining required operations and meeting deadlines. This includes preparing your documentation for the May 1st annual CRS recertification (for all communities outside Monroe and Miami-Dade Counties), even though we have not received an official request for the information.
• Begin planning and preparing outreach to your federal congress people to request their assistance in reinstating the program, emphasizing the level of local investment and the value the program brings to our communities.
Please monitor the Florida Floodplain Managers Association website for more communication concerning the status of the CRS program.
