This is probably the second most complex book cover I’ve designed to date.
I wanted Riley to have something that was uniquely hers, not just another notebook. Every part of this project went through multiple revisions, from the portrait, to the cherry tree, to the colors, to making sure every detail could actually be manufactured.
One of the things I enjoy most about designing for 3D printing is that it sits at the intersection of art and engineering. It’s not enough for an idea to look good, it also has to be printable.
As these projects become more intricate, I’m also starting to find the limits of my current design process. That’s honestly exciting. Every limit I run into is an opportunity to rethink how I design, simplify where it makes sense, and develop new workflows for the projects that come next.
Seeing Riley’s smile when she held the finished notebook made every iteration worth it.
On to the next challenge.
