Teachers recently gathered for an exciting professional development session, "A Mathematician Mindset," hosted by the teacher leaders Lacey Colwell and Kathy Gilles. During this hands-on workshop, educators dove deep into the Standards for Mathematical Practice, exploring how to foster a true mathematical mindset in their classrooms. By interacting directly with various math games, puzzles, texts, and manipulatives, teachers collaborated on creative ways to kick off the upcoming school year with high-impact, engaging instruction.

Throughout the collaborative session, teachers discussed how different classroom activities and resources align with one or more of the 8 Standards for Mathematical Practice. They walked away with practical, ready-to-use implementation strategies to help students reason, problem-solve, and construct viable arguments. A huge thank you to Lacey Colwell and Kathy Gilles for hosting such an inspiring and valuable session for our district's educators!

🎓 Alumni Spotlight: Ella Carlile, Class of 2022

Congratulations to Dunlap alumna Ella Carlile! Ella graduated from Baylor University in May 2026 with a degree in Language and Linguistics and has received the prestigious Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Award to South Korea. We are so proud of Ella and excited to celebrate her accomplishments!

While students enjoy their summer break, Dunlap teachers are continuing to grow their practice. Through a summer book study of The Missing Link to Help Them Think: Connecting Executive Function to SEL Skills to Boost Student Learning, educators are deepening their understanding of how to support students' thinking, learning, and social-emotional development!
